The fire alarm went off just after we walked into the cafe. The staff didn't have a clue what to do... Not once did they infirm us costumers what was going on. There were 3 babies in the cafe.... One lady took her very small baby out because of the noise. Eventually they managed to stop the bells. No communication with the customers. Very unprofessional in my opinion. The tea was not nice.... I sent it back once. Not that it improved. Sorry I won't be back even though the carrot cake was lovely.
Excellent coffee and cake. The loo was scruffy and the table badly needed wiping but as the excellent front of house staff was single-handed that day I felt it was her fault. She laid a most beautiful table for a party of eight later that day.
Lovely tea room. Great hot chocolate and cream tea. Excellent position in Blandford Forum.
Today I visited with a friend to celebrate her 86th Birthday, we had the afternoon tea, which was superb, the sandwiches were all freshly made and the scones were the best I've tasted. The care and service given by the staff and quality of food was better than a lot more expensive places. Thank you for making an elderly ladies birthday very special.
Extremely small scones for the ridiculous price. Staff were bored and uninterested. Had to go up and ask for sugar twice. It was right in front of her but she insisted she would bring it to me. The loose leaf tea was ruined as they do not have proper loose leaf tea pots. The tea is instead just put into tea bags which ruin the point and dull the taste. The "book store" was extremely disappointing. Just a few ripped and tattered books scattered around the place. More choice in the charity shop. Wouldn't recommend unless you like being ripped off.
Beatons Tearooms is a lovely place which is nicely decorated. The walls are covered with books which you can read and buy and you should really make an excuse to use the toilet because that is another lovely experience. The cakes, coffee and light lunches are delicious and the staff are efficient, friendly and helpful as well. In short, you should go today.
Helpful friendly staff who checked on what on the menu I could have because of a food allergy. The atmosphere is wonderful. But what made very happy was the very good range of teas and the descriptions for those who wanted to try something they are not familiar with.
What’s has happened to this once smashing Tearooms? We have been stopping off at Beatons for several years en-route to Dorset and Devon and again on our return journey home. The staff always welcoming greeting, helpful even when busy which it seemed to be on our visits. What a shock we had on arriving this morning, firstly on entering the staff looked somewhat taken aback at at our entrance. We were told to sit down and they would be with us shortly. It was 11:45am we intended to have a light brunch but were told that the breakfast had ended at 11:00 and lunch would start at midday the only food on offer were Bagels with various toppings, cakes or scones. My husband finds bagels somewhat indigestible, I asked if there ware any sandwiches or maybe something on toast, again came a negative response, sadly went hungry, I settled for a pain au raisin, that arrived so hot it was impossible to eat, when cooled a little it was so doughy and tasteless I left a over a third uneaten. Ordering hot drinks was a bit of a minefield, an Americano with cold milk was a breeze and enjoyed by my husband who found it a good tasty coffee. However, a straight plain hot chocolate request I hit another stumbling block. The young waitress offered several flavoured chocolate, but I just wanted a plain ordinary hot chocolate with as little sugar content as possible. By this time I just needed some refreshment having just completed a 70 mile drive and something to sustain me for the final 86 mile drive to our destination. In no way did I blame the waitress who was doing her best given the limited menu. I assumed a woman was the manager stayed behind the counter cleaning and storting a delivery rather than coming over to our table to placate the situation. We left paying a bill of £9.50 which was 20% more expensive than other similar and more welcoming establishments for the same order in Wiltshire, Dorset and Devon.Withno desire to return It deeply saddens me that such a good business we looked forward to visiting and recommended to others seems to have lost it way.
Visited here when we were in the area, really lovely little tearooms. They serve a variety of different rea options, cafeteria coffee, loose tea, smoothies, hand pressed orange juice; they also have some amazing cakes which look delicious. I highly recommend.
We stopped for breakfast 9.30 on a weekday morning. The porridge was very stodgy and filled croissant was overcooked. Staff pleasant, but carpeted area badly stained and spattered with crumbs presumably from a previous day.
