Barrowland Ballroom

Story

Barrowland Ballroom is a dance hall and music venue located in Glasgow, Scotland.History of Barrowland BallroomThe original building opened in 1934 in a mercantile area east of Glasgow's city centre, built by "Barra Queen" Maggie McIver. The "Barras" street market (more properly Glasgow Barrowland market), after which the area and the ballroom are named, continues until the present day. The Barrowland building includes large street-level halls used for the weekend markets, with a sizeable weatherproof hall above. The front of the building is decorated with a distinctive animated neon sign. The sign is believed to be the biggest of its kind in the UK, although this can not be confirmed as the original order documents detailing the specifications of the sign have been lost. The building was largely destroyed by fire in 1958, leading to a complete rebuild. The rebuilt ballroom opened on Christmas Eve 1960.In more recent years, the Ballroom has become a major concert venue with a capacity of around 2,100 people, known for its acoustics and its sprung dance floor. Simple Minds filmed the video for their 1983 hit single, "Waterfront", at Barrowlands. Oasis, U2, The Stranglers, The Clash, The Smiths, Big Country, Muse, Foo Fighters and Marillion were a number of the acts to play the hall. Adjacent to the Ballroom itself is the Barrowland Park where there is a pathway which features the names of many artists who have played at the venue over the decades.

The Barrowland Ballroom is an integral part of Glasgow's entertainment industry. If you aee any of the bands you enjoy advertised to play here, you should definitely consider buying tickets to go and see them. I've been coming here since I was a nipper now 29 years old and have always had a great time.
Fantastic experience here, went to see Bear's Den and it was amazing. We went to see them 2 years before this at the O2 academy in Glasgow and this venue was much better, better security, smaller queues and much better sounds! Great gig and will be back to see more here!
Brilliant legendary venue in Glasgow! Went to see Saxon, FM and Wayward Sons in October 2018. Sound was spot on all night and got served quickly at the bar. Place could probably do with a good refurbishment but I suppose that's part of the charm.
One of the best venues for music I've ever been to! It's so much better than the Hydro as you're more up close and intimate with the performer. I even caught a guitar pick from the band when I was here, best music venue in Glasgow
Lovely venue, massive queue to get in, quite slow getting people in and missed the whole of the first acts set which was disappointing. Decent prices on the bar though so can't complain too much. It's a nice, classic venue with a nice atmosphere too.
Went to see Feeder. First time iv been, will definitely be booking more gigs here. The only thing is you can't seem to use cards for drinks, but it's not overly dear.
Decent venue, smaller in size mostly all standing except small area at the back. Good sound. Easy to get to but that area can be a bit rough sometimes. Parking on streets near by is fairly easy.
Best venue in the world it's unbeatable for acoustics and atmosphere!
