Banners House Hotel

About

A former coaching inn, now converted into an award-winning boutique hotel, restaurant, cafe and bar. Hearty Scottish and world food served all day.

Story

Banner’s House Hotel is a converted coaching inn at the heart of picturesque Markinch village near Glenrothes, Fife.

The five-bedroom hotel is just 40 minutes north of Edinburgh, on the edge of the Lomond Hills National Park.

The food in our restaurant is traditional Scottish combined with home-cooked world food our sister restaurant (Banner's Restaurant in Crouch End, London) is famous for.

The hotel opened in June 2014 after a six-month transformation. We are a small hotel run by a dynamic staff.

We pride ourselves on a warm welcome for all of our guests - whether on mini breaks, golf tours, guests at nearby weddings, or business travellers.

We hope to see you soon - in the restaurant, cafe, bar or hotel.

We recently stayed in Suite 1 at The Fig Tree Hotel in Markinch, and while the room itself was pleasant, a few inconveniences left us with a disappointing experience.nn**Room:**nThe suite was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Positioned directly above the pub, I was initially concerned about noise, but it turned out to be surprisingly quiet, allowing for a peaceful night’s rest. The décor was tasteful, and the bed was comfortable, making it a welcoming space after a long day.nn**Issues with Hot Water:**nUnfortunately, the biggest drawback of our stay was the lack of hot water on our first night and most of the following morning. This was especially inconvenient as we were preparing for a wedding. However, the staff did their best to rectify the situation by offering us access to another room so we could take a hot shower, which was a helpful gesture.nn**Breakfast Discrepancy:**nOne thing we looked forward to was the breakfast offering mentioned in the welcome book, which highlighted a bacon or egg roll. However, on both mornings, only toast and cereal were available. This was a bit disappointing, as we were expecting more based on the provided information.nn**Housekeeping:**nAnother downside was that the room wasn’t cleaned, nor were fresh towels provided during our stay. Given the price and expectation for a suite, we would have expected at least a quick tidy-up or towel refresh.nn**Overall Experience:**nWhile the room itself was lovely, the issues with hot water, the incomplete breakfast offering, and lack of housekeeping left us feeling underwhelmed. The Fig Tree Hotel has potential, but unfortunately, our stay was marred by these inconveniences.
Great wee hotel, very good value for money. Had no issues that previous guests have mentioned, room was clean and tidy and no issues with the hot water. Hotel staff were all kind and friendly. Would definitely stay again
I recently stayed at this hotel and was left thoroughly disappointed. First of all, the advertising is completely misleading. They boast about luxurious amenities, but in reality, the shower facilities are subpar at best. The water pressure was terrible, and the temperature fluctuated constantly, making it nearly impossible to enjoy a decent shower.nnThe management is another issue—they're dishonest and seem completely unbothered by the state of their hotel. I brought up several concerns, and while they agreed to refund me due to the poor experience, I'm still waiting for that refund weeks later with no resolution in sight.nnThe noise levels are unbearable. Every night, there was loud music and shouting until the early hours of the morning, making it impossible to get any sleep. It felt more like a nightclub than a hotel.nnThe cleanliness of the hotel is appalling. The floors were filthy, and worst of all, they didn’t even bother to change the bed sheets! It was obvious that the room hadn’t been properly cleaned before my stay.nnAll in all, this place is a disaster. Avoid it if you value cleanliness, honesty, and a good night's rest. And don’t trust their refund promises—I'm still waiting for mine!
We booked a room that had a bath in the middle a the room and we messaged them when we booked it to double check that was the room we had and they confirmed. We turned up and they said someone has been staying in that room for 3 weeks and then said the bath was broken so which one was true? Also said they served food til 2pm and when we got there they said the chef doesn’t work here anymore. The shower was like a drip and I’m not exaggerating and it was freezing into the bargain. Bathroom door wouldn’t open properly. The only draft beer they had was tennents and they had to phone the manager because my girlfriend asked a cocktail. Music was played very loud all night so couldn’t get to sleep. Only saving grace were the bar staff who were very helpful
Very tired rooms and a poor experience. The bathroom is in particular poor condition with dirty shower head and very low pressure, damaged floor, cracked shower panel and loose toilet seat. The bedroom had one broken and one missing bulb in the light fitting. The curtain was thin and did not reach the length of the room allowing light in. There was no handbook to advise if there was a breakfast service don’t think there was or what the check out procedure was. The WiFi did not work and there was no number to call once the staff finished at 6. I also noted that the front door appeared to be open all night. In the morning there were no staff around when I went to check out at 8am so had to leave my key in the room. Overall a very poor experience.
