Beware, I would think twice before booking anything at this place: they obviously do not think that privacy is something to be respected since they've gone on twitter and slaughtered a guest that stayed here a few years ago. Whether they liked him or not, whatever happened should have stayed within the 4 walls of the property, not aired for everyone to see and comment on 2-3 or 4 years on.... Rule No1 for a company that relies on good publicity and reviews? Confidentiality! Break that and you're as good as finished. Terrible place, I would never put foot in it!
It is an absolutely a beautiful stately house which is still a home. It is not open to the public, but is available for special occasions. If you have been, or are planning to hire it for a "special occasion", then you will understand why it's not open to the public. It would be ruined.
This is a beautiful place...I grew up here. It's not what it used to be but it's still very beautiful and worth a visit. During my childhood it was a magical place. The rhodedendron collection was one of the best in the UK which has sadly gone...the late Henry Dunleath would be most annoyed at how the estate is now ...but life goes on and maybe another generation will return the gardens to their original glory and forget about the blood sports.
Lovely welcome and a super garden. You need to book a visit.
The place is crawling with pompous toffs who think they are above everyone else. Horrid owners who treat their guests appalingly.
