Look it’s a beautiful place but friendliness was lacking. In the picture you can see the steak barn and the pizza box are maybe 50 yards a part. We ordered a pizza for our 2 year old because he wouldn’t eat steak. So we did so and went to eat steak since he wouldn’t eat it. Only to be turned away because pizza is takeaway only…I clearly have a small child and it’s owned by the same place. Even when I ordered the pizza I stood there waiting to be acknowledged…we noticed this from the road and even turned around to visit very excited as normally these places in Scotland are friendly and welcoming. Sadly this spot is not it. Hopefully other Americans don’t experience the same experience in the future.
My visit was for a lunch followed by a quick trip into the food store for some delicious cheese and bread. As always the staff in the restaurant were pleasant, helpful and very efficient. The food we ordered was delivered in a reasonable amount of time, was hot and delicious! I have to name check Heather who looked after us on table 15, she was everything I mentioned above but did it with such panache as to make us feel truly valued customers. Thanks Heather you are the epitome of excellence and Balgove will benefit from staff like you. Will I go back? Yes, absolutely, thanks Balgove!
Incredible amount of fresh and high quality produces With also gifts and books wines Literally a great place to shop groceries, cheeses and much more
By far, this is one of my favourite restaurants to eat at for breakfast , lunch or dinner . This farm to table restaurant, farm shop, butcher, cafe, steak barn, and flower shop is conveniently located, beautifully situated outside of St. Andrews in the Kingdom of Fife. There is plenty of parking spots available. Sometimes getting seated to eat takes a few moments, but the wait is well worth it. I love to stop in for the freshly prepared soup , hard bread and a coffee . The desserts are indulgent and a definite must! Whenever possible, the expert team of chefs use home grown, home reared and locally sourced produce. This fresh food is good for the soul. The prices £££ are reasonable. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting St. Andrews.
The cafe has a good varied menu and prices are very reasonable service was good and staff were pleasant. Had a cappuccino and scone and jam the coffee was a bit weak for my taste and jam was runny & thin hubby had sausages on roll had 3 large sausages hubby said tasted great!
This is the 3 rd time I have visited the cafe and once again I was left very disappointed! I met a friend for breakfast because the location suited her. I ordered the pancakes with bacon and maple syrup. I asked if the bacon was crispy and the assistant said I could have it that way. I added that I didn’t mind waiting. When it came the bacon wasn’t slimy but was so dried out that I couldn’t actually chew it. One of the pancakes was burnt and they were very dry, didn’t taste fresh at all. I left everything on my plate apart from a bit of pancake and a bit of bacon. No one questioned why I had left everything!!!! I didn’t want to embarrass my friend so just paid and left. I will never go there again or recommend it.
Fantastic customer service received today whilst at Balgove Larder cafe. My partner and I stopped for breakfast and were met by a lovely waitress called Jade. This lady is a welcome addition to Balgove as she is friendly, bubbly, highly professional and engaging. What an absolute delight meeting Jade today, as normally the staff are lack lustre and non engaging. I truly hope Balgove realise what an asset this young lady is to the company.
Did the Beef Butchery course with James Lothian who is a master butcher at the peak of his trade. He is very knowledgeable about all aspects of meat - farming, preparation and cooking. All of this makes for a hugely enjoyable and interesting experience.
Disappointing experience. Coffee insipid, cheese scones luminous but tasteless, more akin to rock cakes in texture. And 2 queasy stomachs to follow. Such a shame - definitely a case of style over content.
Very lovely breakfast and drinks. Although - I’ve had the pancakes twice and both times not enough syrup! More please!
