I ordered a large cod, small chips, for £9. Service was quick and polite, the cod a good size. A little overcooked and a tad dry, for my taste, but everyone's different. A filling meal nonetheless.
Maybe we just caught the chippy on a bad day but was very disappointed with the service. A queue of 10 people when arriving turned into an hour wait from arrival time to leaving. 2 people working behind but instead of taking the orders for the line waiting outside, was cooking to order. Food was OK but nothing to scream about - very greasy as it didn’t have enough time to drain. Fortunately as the sun was out the queue was nice and chatty. Anyone thinking of swinging by, if you see a queue just don’t bother.
Unfortunately, no photos to add to the review... Th shop is easy to find, pebble parking at the back for customers and it can be a bit slow, but we think that's just because there's one chap cooking and one lady serving and taking payment. Now trust me, I'm a 200lbs, 6ft + dude who hits the gym and even I was concerned when I saw the portion sizes. Typical fish and chips, but the fish can be large or small, this is new to me. There's also jumbo sausages in batter, the sausage under the batter is a great sausages. The fish is flaky and tastes fresh, but the batter on everything is very crispy. Maybe too crispy, so has a crunch and rather oily taste/texture to it. As much as I liked the shop, the people running the show, who were very friendly. I was just disappointed with how fried everything was. The chips were proper fish and chip shop chips, the way they're meant to be. Also, be warned. There's a tax to everything. Plastic bag, if you need one. So take your own bag. They offer free salt and vinegar, but ketchup and other stuff is paid for in sachets. They take card and cash payments. A nice place to try while we're here. There's a beef burger in batter that I'm regretting that I didn't try, but judging on the batter on everything else.... Probably a near miss right there. 3*s because I was disappointed in the batter, too dark, too much crunch. Should be light and flaky and not so heavy. So giving them 4*s for the other positives. 5* for the people serving it. Parking: There's parking behind the shop, if you're collecting or dining outside on the benches.
I came to shop around 8pmnon Saturday at the end of July 21. The shop was meant to be close at 20:30 but people were not stopping to queue... I've ordered Rock named just Rock for £5.95, cod roe for £1.50, small chips, mushy peas. Tasty, cooked very well, I mean Ell was a bit dry, boneless though. Cash only. Clean tidy place. Friendly staff.
Very busy chip shop with decent quality fish but my Haddock was very greasy and my wife's was overcooked. Just needed to let my fish to drain and I'm sure it would have been better. The chips and curry sauce were very nice. I give it 2.5 stars.
Drove from Hemsby to Bacton to get a gluten free fish and chip lunch for my husband. Gluten free cod, gluten free butchers sausage & gluten free butchers burgers available. My husband thoroughly enjoyed his gluten free Cod, sausage & Chips. Gluten free menu is available during all open hours. Spotlessly clean chippy with friendly helpful staff. Will definately be back and totally recommend them Dietary restrictions: Gluten free
Very very good little fish and chip shop in the heart of Bacton..and the reason it's a little on slow side is a it's soo busy and b everything's cooked to order rather than sitting in the heated racks but it's worth the waitFood: 5/5
We ordered cod & chips and sausage & chips today, well, what else can I say but WOW THEY WERE ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! Best I’ve had for a loooong time! Lovely people serving and frying. Thanks so much
Nice F&C, tables outside so okay in good weather. Lovely people running the place.
Great chips and mushy peas at a good price. Relatively slow service at busier times though. We waited 45 minutes for a large chips and mushy peas on a Friday evening.
