Beautiful park, especially the Japanese gardens. A short walk 5/10 minutes from the city centre. Nice cafe serving hot and cold drinks, cakes and ice creams. Lovely walk by the river and exploring the park with the family. Playground: Limited items in the playground. The ground has wood chip. Not much for toddlers. But my eldest still had fun. Restrooms: Reasonable clean toilets.
I love this local park, it's such a beautiful space. Its perfect for those daily walks, days sunbathing in the sun or to explore a little. Absolutely stunning and the Japanese Gardens are wonderful to relax in. Forget your headphones here, just listen to the world go by!
Amazing place to visit! The view, the greenery calls you. Flowering trees, rivers, birds, gardens everything gives a call and peaceful vibes. Best place to spend an evening with friends and family. Visit atleast once. Enjoy the calm and beauty of nature. Worth the walk. This park is 100+ years old and constructed with wonderfully layout. It has 3 separate park joined together. The Japanese park is amusing to eyes.
Wonderful city park, free from city noise, down by the river Ribble. All you can see of the town itself is a row of beautiful Georgian houses along the top edge of the park. It must have been this peaceful and looked this way for well over 100 years
Situated just outside the town centre where there is a lot of development work taking place at the moment26/03/2022, this is a fantastic park, well kept and very big. The Japanese Garden is a lovely feature but may be difficult for older people to negotiate the large stone steps. The entrance we used to access the park was on a very steep hill, OK going in but hard work getting back up it to exit the parkthe other entrances looked like they were on quite an incline as well. There is a modern tea roomalthough service was very slow. The river walk is a must, lined with well kept flower beds and grass verges, with large trees lining the rivers edge. The only real issue I can see is car parking, with the park being so close to the town centre parking is at a premium, most of the area is permit holders only and double yellow lines, we could not find a car parking area specifically for park visitors and had to park in a multi storey car park in the centre and walk back to the parkmay be an issue if you are visiting from out of the area for a picnic. Overall this is a lovely park and well worth a visit.
Attended 1st time here for the Annual Mela..wow it's a beautiful big park with a large cafe & also restrooms, outside building with toilets available too. The Japanese Garden was my highlight situated central on the hill next to the cafe, we were able to walk along the Ribble River too which was wonderful in the sun. Lot's of families having picnics, barbecues, dog walkers, cyclists, children's playground. Just a lovely park, we walked in the centre where there is steps leading up to a monument & also a flower bed dedicated to the Queens Jubilee & 'Preston' standing image to take a photo..we didn't manage to walk all around the park. But was thrilled with the Event Mela with stage performers, food, fair, stalls, it was nice to see all faiths come together supporting the local event!
Beautiful park with natural beauty. Calm and peaceful atmosphere where we can get some fresh air. Garden in the park is too mesmerising. Must visit place in preston
Very pretty place to visit. I always mention Avenham Park when people ask how's preston. Lovely place to sit in summer, the park is always full of life and some events are held here. There are shops here, I have never been but some days they are busy. There is a playground for young kids.
Lovely place for a walk with family and children. Or you could do your daily walk or jog. You can even ride your bike with the family.
There is no doubt that this is nr 1 Preston park. Clean, spacious and full of beautiful, green scenery. I really salute the peoples who looks after it. "With a backcloth provided by the River Ribble, Avenham Park ranks amongst the finest examples of traditional Victorian parkland in the North West. Designed and created by Edward Milner during the 1860s. Avenham Park, together with Miller Park, is probably one of the best surviving examples of his work today. This park is created from a natural amphitheatre and has a famous Japanese Rock Garden with a wide variety of unusual ornamental plants, together with beautiful water features. Avenham Colonade, the splendid riverside Ribble Walk, The Belvedere and majestic Derby Walk are amongst a few of the features to be found. A number of outdoor events are hosted here throughout the year, ranging from major music festivals and traditional Easter Egg Rolling to fun days, sponsored walks and orienteering."
