I have requested additional photos and condition reports for items from their upcoming auction. While they have the time to write you an email telling you that they are not going to provide you any information, they could spend that time do a better job on presenting the items in the sale. I don't see the point of having internet auction if you refuse to respond to the requests from online bidders, most of whom cannot go and see the items in person.
Disorganised in our experience. Last time our auction item was inadvertently given to someone else and it took Andrew Smith & Son a couple of weeks to get it back. This time, I was directed and re-directed between offices to collect my auction item.
Brilliant staff excellent service
I have bought and sold antiques at Andrew Smith for many years and have found them to be extremely professional when representing both buyers and sellers . As an Auction house they have no equal. They are a family business and offer a truly personal service which is extremely rare these days I have had several "bad" experiences with supposedly reputable Auctioneers over the years but never with Andrew Smith . Any perception that a rural auction house cannot compete with the big boys is totally unfounded as they use State of the Art software , selling and promoting their customers antiques via the Internet , making them a truly International Company . Above all, they are honest and I have no hesitation in recommending them . John Mott
two day sale a couple of years ago, weather freezing, I left a bid of £80 for a chesterfield. On phoning the next day I found I had got it for £60 - well that is true honesty.
Commission is a bit high, queuing to pay can be a nightmare, I've waited over 30 mins at the end. Can be interesting and staff have always proved to be very helpful.
