I attended a wedding reception and found the layout of the function rooms to be poor and the bar was in yet another room. The bar was understaffed and had a limited stock, with drinks like spiced rum running out early in the evening. The room in which we were seated had the carpet rolled up and left against one wall and a mat rolled and left in a corner. I do not think that the service they provided was adequate for a wedding party.

A lovely wedding, very well done and it helped that we had beautiful weather. Photos on the stone steps will be stunning. Rooms beautifully decorated for the wedding, food excellent and the owl behaved ! However, as a hotel Auchen Castle leaves a lot to be desired and is certainly not 5 star. On arrival Simon was keen to take full payment for our room but had no record of our deposit paid. Very strange. We had a room in the annexe, bog standard room, adequate and could have been anywhere. Plenty of hot water and room temperature easily adjusted. However, friends staying in the 'posh' castle rooms reported that while they looked good, on closer inspection they were very tired with peeling wallpaper. They had no hot water on the wedding day, cold showers all round. Housekeeping was poor. Rooms not done till the wedding was on in the afternoon. Bed not made, surfaces not wiped over and no replacement bottles of water. No WiFi in the rooms. Not essential but not 5 star. The evening before the wedding we had a buffet meal. Excellent steak pie but no gravy! The only place to eat was the bar. 50 people crammed in, some managing to find a table, many perching plates on knees. Later it was far too noisy for the 'older ' members of the party as the bar was the only place to go. Breakfast was rather a farce. Day 1 there were some yoghourts and small pastries. None on day 2. When we asked we were told the previous wedding 2 days before had eaten too many ! Presumably they also ate the marmalade as there was only blackcurrant jam left. What about restocking, even nipping to the local Co-op? Fruit was just tasteless melon balls. The cooked buffet breakfast was ok but you couldn't have everything together. If bacon and sausages were there you had to wait for eggs and beans. Plates were cold and the food certainly wasn't hot. We seemed to spend all breakfast asking the staff for things. No serviettes on day 2. The waiters and waitresses were local youngsters who tried hard, but had no one in charge. Check out by 10.30am, no staff there to assist, no sign of Simon. A lovely wedding weekend but not a hotel to return to, especially at £160 per night B&B.

Disappointed to report the room and breakfast did not reflect the £150 price tag. Neither of the table lamps were in working order. The shower was either scalding hot or freezing cold meaning a shower wasn't possible. The breakfast was poor, we arrived at 9am, there was no bacon, eggs or beans left. We waited 5 minutes for eggs, I enquired about the beans and was informed that they would be topped up later once the chef had cooked them. I gave up waiting for bacon. I have stayed in many hotels and have never had to pay up front for the room. I found this equally as odd as there being no staff upon check-out, with whom to raise my concerns. It begs the question , are these policies in place to avoid customer complaints?

I got married 16th September this year and throughout the whole weekend they were very attentive and made everything run smoothly. It was perfect from the start to the end. Food was stunning couldn't fault any of them. Staff where friendly, helpful and supportive. Best weekend of my life and the master of ceremony for the weekend Simon made it perfect and we got everything we wanted and more. Definitely would do it again

We attended here for a wedding. It is a beautiful place with lovely surrounding views and grounds. The staff were very friendly and I loved all the detail and beauty that the castle had to offer.
