Love that place. It's easy to miss though because you have to climb down stairs to get there. The fondue is tasty and cheap. The atmosphere is very cozy. The Polish lady who runs it is great too. Strangely enough, on one occasion, I wanted to go there with friends but it was closed because they had a "psychic night"!
Don't get intimidated by this small, dusty, old fashioned restaurant, the first look is misleading. After this unwelcoming narrow stairs, you will find a wine bar serving decent French food good but not all home made I guess for quite cheap prices. The wine selection is impressive and the owner, an old polish lady is great. And she knows her wine. For me, this place is a little gem.
If you're looking for a chic, modern wine bar, this is not your place. But if you're looking for an evening filled with great stories, interesting people and a well considered wine list in one of the most authentic watering holes in London, this place is for you. Elisabeth couldn't be a more gracious host, and if you're open to where the evening takes you, you will not be disappointed.
Down an alley and then down a small staircase is one of London's hidden gems. Probably the best cheese fondue in the city, and still less than £6 a head. Beware though, you might end up spending twice that because it's so good you'll want seconds. 60s and 70s music, 60s decor, and an amazing Owner/Manager from the same era who attracts a great range of local characters to the tiny bar with her fine selection of wine. If you stick around long enough you might even get a small glass of Polish mead to finish off a great evening. Highly recommended.
A place lost in time, but at the right time. There is a great wine selection here at very affordable rates. It's a place that really takes you out of London and into continental Europe. Definitely recommend for a date or group of friends who are into wine.
Stayed in Earl’s Court area both times in London. Stumbled on Ashbee’s the first time, went back on purpose the next time. All the reviews are spot on. Great wine at great prices. Elizabeth is a gem if you take the time to talk with her. The space is full of character, but may be off putting to some who want more updated, millennial, blah blah blah. If that’s you, then don’t go. If you love a quirky place, good wine, and fondue, check it out!
Had some of the best moments in my life here when I lived in London. Elisabeth is the best host, and the Swiss cheese fondue doesn’t disappoint. I’m tearing up just thinking about the place...
A unique experience. It beats any Broadway show! Long live Elizabeth! If you like Starbucks coffee and cueing in line for madame Tussaud, stay away
The owner, a Polish lady, is a charming jewel on earls court. Intimate wine bar set up perfectly for conversation and the like.
On my own in a new part of town for me so was pleasantly surprised how lovely it was. Owner was a gem....lots of stories. Very nice time!
