We arrived (family with 3 between 6 & 9 years) wanting a train ride but instead went on a mine tour. Dudley Dave gave a very informative tour of a very authentic coal mine. This is the closest we have ever come to being in a working mine and without the usual, extreme health and safety it felt very real. All of the staff are very passionate, knowledgeable and helpful. The museum is also worth wandering around and the quizzes keep the kids engaged and educated. A great afternoon was completed by a stroll in the country park.

Went on a Geography field trip from Keele University, the walks around Apedale were lovely and the museum inside the Heritage Centre was very interesting, especially since I am a local! Would love to go on one of the mining trips :)
