First discovered this little gem of a bookshop several years ago with my children - who of course love the Alice stories - and later bought the owner’s own book on Alice for my oldest daughter, which he kindly signed. Had not been in again for some time and visited on 2 November 2024. The owner’s nephew was holding the fort and is keen to please and showed me a number of interesting and reasonably priced books. Bought an excellent book of Huxley letters and a novel. Might go back for more that I saw. Would recommend this shop to anyone interested in one or more of a Lewis Carol and the world of Alice and b rare and eccentric second hand London bookshops and c general first editions and some quite rare books, all in VG to excellent condition and at reasonable prices for London and Cecil Court. Not to be missed if you are interested in any of the above. I am sure tourists love the place. It was constantly busy during my visit.
Stopped by on a walk with a friend and really enjoyed it! I wasn't allowed in initially because I had a drink, totally understandable and I came back after I finished it I didn't see the sign initially so that was completely my bad. The shop is small but there are so many cool books and Alice themed memorabilia. The man working was also very nice to talk to and he gave me and my friend a recommendation on where to walk to next. I will definitely be coming back and I highly recommend this place for the lovers of Alice in Wonderland or anyone who wants to show their support to local businesses:
We recently visited this store twice and it was one of our favorite spots of our trip to London. The store itself is a treasure trove for any classic UK book lover. The first visit..Tom, was so sweet, knowledgeable and enthusiastic about the different editions, sharing fascinating insights and helping us find exactly what we were looking for. His friendly and patient demeanor made the visit truly enjoyable. He showed us rare first editions of books that were so cool!!! We were so impressed that I returned to purchase a collectible "Winnie the Pooh" book I had my eye on the first visit plus another Pooh book and a CS Lewis book. Then we had the pleasure of meeting the owner. He was equally amazing, professional and he was also really funny!!!! Both Tom and the owner made our visits memorable with their passion and expertise. The owner went out of his way to look at a couple pictures of an old Alice book my cousin was gifted to see if we could guess what American edition it might be. If you're a fan of classic/rare/collectors edition literature, I highly recommend visiting this bookstore!!!!
A most brilliant bookshop! The owner was magical and told the most lovely stories! So much laughter! An absolute jewel of a visit with three new books for my own collection!
I found this shop by chance and it literally made my day. If you are into Lewis Carroll and / or antiquities, this is your place, plenty of books not only from Lewis but very niche authors. Is like the phrase say “those who know, know”. Very nice gesture the packaging and quick chat with the shop owner. Will come back& recommend :
Stunning, beautiful tiny quirky shop dedicated to Alice throughout FOH the looking glass, so many memorabilia’s and items you won’t find anywhere else. A bit pricy though
Really cool shop. VERY kind and generous shopkeeper. Bought a miniature, red “Alice” book with gold paper edges and he wrapped it so beautifully. Just a lovely experience and highly recommended stopping in!!
What a disappointment. I love Alice in Wonderland, so I was very excited about visiting this shop, but there’s hardly anything you can buy in it. Most of it is the sour owner’s own collection. There were a few very expensive editions and that’s it. However, if you go right next door to the left there’s a great shop with shelves full of copies of Alice in Wonderland for sale and a much friendlier man. Go there instead!
Attracted by the illustrations they had on sale, I decided to go in. To my surprise, the experience was closer to visting a museum on Lewis Carroll´s Alice than a store. I had a great chat with the salesman who was very kind and even showed me the "treasures" the store has to offer. Wether you are a fan or not of the Alice series, I recommend visiting the store. If you are really into Alice in Wonderland, this is a mandatory visit.
Great shop in the magical Cecil court bookshop alley off Charing Cross road. All things Alice are sold here. Also down Cecil court are some beautiful and charming book, art and art deco jewellery shops...no traffic allowed...totally magical at night when everything is lit up...great place.
