Excellent little museum, with a real suprise exhibit all about Samuel Cody. There's something really special to find there that you might easily miss! Very interesting to discover how lawless the early army camp here was, and to follow the journey through to today. It's pretty small, bit if you read everything it will fill a couple of hours. Some really good vehicles in the barn, which is also an exhibit itself! Although they say they have a café, it's really just a coffee machine and packaged confectionery. If I would suggest any changes it would be to improve this. Wonderfully informative volunteers too.
I wasn't sure about taking the boys here, mostly because I didn't want to push the idea of war to them. But with time to spare on a school holiday, and a child currently learning about WWII we gave it a go. I was happily surprised - it's far more focused on the history of the town of Aldershot as a military town, with lots of fun interactive bit for the kids and a little playground outside. The tanks and old military vehicles were a particular hit. You don't need more than an hour here and it's cheap enough that you don't mind paying the price. Theoretically you can use the tickets all year round once bough, but I can't imagine returning unless you have children particularly interested in the military. In short, it was an interesting hour spent looking at different times in history, with focus on military, but very neutral - it doesn't glamorize or focus on war at all. Just the equipment soldier would use throughout history. When we went they even had a painting workshop where they got to paint little toy figures. If you are local, it's a fun way to spend a quick afternoon.
Great laid out displays with lots of things to interact with around every corner. Visited today and really enjoyed getting to handle some of the guns I remember handling myself. At £9 per adult and your ticket lasts all year. There were some reenactors from the napoleonic era there when I was there but had a appointment elsewhere to attend so missed them. Kids there seemed to enjoy themselves greatly and they apparently had an assault course.
Fascinating museum with lots of nuggets of history. They do events in half terms like making models as well as other military events. Ticket lasts all year.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo wait
Lots of history! Great staff! And you have the opportunity to even try on costumes and experience with the historical armoury free of charge! Unfortunately we were in a slight hurry as we were on a tight schedule but the staff a extremely welcoming and passionate to share the history. The tanks and trucks outside you can walk right up to and get some amazing photos that other museums would normally have roped off. I even got a photo with my little blue car next to the monster size tank something I would be unlikely be able to do anywhere else. Great place for sure!!!!
Went on a visit here today really enjoyable full of interesting information and knowledge plus interactive sections plus lots of tanks and armoured vehicles to view outside Worth a look and good value for money
It’s not the biggest military museum ever and the collection is a bit tired in places but full marks to the volunteers who were very chatty, highly knowledgeable and very welcoming. Gives a bit of an overview of Aldershot and its army links and worth a visit for sure.
Really enjoyed the museum, staff were really helpful and keen to talk about everything on show. Well worth stopping by if you are in the area. Definitely lots to see in all the buildings
We went yesterday & my boys 8 & 5 had a brilliant time. We spent about 3.5hrs here - mostly on the assault course! The staff we lovely, we had two different men teaching the boys about guns through history & they enjoyed dressing up in various military helmets/hats/uniform my boys, not the staff!Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
The kids liked the assault course and some of the exhibits were interesting the military vehicles all needed a lick of paint and some upkeep shame as it could be brilliant.
