If there’s a better second-hand record shop In London, taking account of the quality of stock, price, friendliness of the owner and chance to listen before you buy, then I’ve yet to find it. Unearthed nine great albums for a total of £70, including Dylan, Joni, Van and Carole King, and Alan said: you can have them for £65 if you want to pay cash there’s a cash point at Sainsbury’s about 150m up the road. Then he offered to take back any albums that didn’t play well all have been fine after a good clean - what you’d expect from 50-year-old records. My first visit definitely won’t be my last.
This is the best record store in London. I grew up in Finchley, so this was the first record store I went to, that was 25 years ago. It’s still the best. You can spend hours digging. Alan is friendly, welcoming, and always keen to talk about the records or Arsenal. His prices are always fair. This is a unique treasure of a shop. Long may you continue Alan.
bought sheer heart attack and beach boys and they seemed to sound better than brand new and they are still playing great, wish there was more queen seems like all the music was in really good condition and you are allowed to play music in the shop. verdic very good edit: its been 2 weeks where is the shop i cant spend money on amazon for ever
I first set foot in Alan’s over 20 years ago and I still do when I can. I tell people from round the world to go, because it’s one of the last true record stores in the UK. Good prices, good records and it’s run with the right intention. Alan is the absolute boss!
This is definitely the best record shop in London. Brilliant selection of loads of genres and always at a very reasonable price. There is a discount section selling 12” LPs for £5, £3 and £1 and boxes of £1 7” singles. I’ve bought tens of records from here and they have always been in excellent condition and fully playable, despite the low price. Alan is really friendly and the whole shop has a brilliant vibe - just make sure to check the opening times because it’s only open on certain days.
Tucked away in Suburbia find one of London's leading second-hand specialists. A variety of genres, reasonably priced and mostly in a decent condition but it's unquestionably the pleasant and engaging owner that make this a worthwhile musical pilgrimage. Here you find music in a good condition at the better price and without an attitude. Alandin’s Cave. Update - 8 years later. Very little has changed, except the ever-revolving and improving stock If you’re serious about music step this way.
Alan is the MAN. Records galore, knowledgeable and friendly. New filing system. Some record filing by association is also useful. Keen record collectors always abound which indicates quality of stock. Enjoy. And try not to spend too much! On Street parking can be difficult but East Finchley tube is 10 mins walking away. So catch a bus. Oh and is a non record shop day shop of you wish to avoid the queues.
Alan's Records is a gem of a shop. The owner is knowledgeable, friendly and helpful man who has a genuine passion for vinyl and extensive experience. The store has a wide selection of LP's from all genres although it has a particularly excellent Jazz section amongst others. The pricing is fair, and reasonable.
If you are a music collector of vinyl ,cd's and cassettes, this shop which has been open for 31 years is a treasure trove for crate diving and digging. I found a few gems there, it begs for a revisit and the staff / owner are all very friendly guys.
Great collection of vinyl records, especially in jazz, hip hop and reggae. Friendly staff, by which I mean the owner Alan who is very kind and a pleasure to chat with. Had a great time browsing through the store, and Alan even allows customers to play any record of their choosing on the store's in house player. Great experience would come back again any time I visit London.
