Been a customer for several years always great recommendations, especially kids books. This was the first time ordering Secondary School books. The school had given a list of retailers - delighted to be able to support local - with the bonus of 10% off! Glad to have local businesses like this in the neighbourhood.
Well, it’s funny because it’s an actual thing in my entire family that we will not purchase any books except from independent book stores. My sister who is a writer is also looking to open one in the future. I preface this because a staff member with glasses came over and was extremely rude as he scolded me to not open the book or take a picture which had a funny quote I sent to my family. No I was not taking pictures of multiple pages, it was a funny Irish mother quote book that reminded me of my mother. I left the store and found loads of reviews saying they were told not to touch or browse the books!!! Sadly, you would’ve had my support if you were treating customers with respect. I wanted to buy a book and now didn’t. Also, if can’t let people touch or browse pages then don’t have a bookstore and let people order online. I would youd be a small business that wants people to be comfortable to come into your store. We should be lifting people up to go to more books nowadays. What a shame
Ordered online for a book that was out of stock across the country but in stock here. I received my confirmation email but didn’t receive any further notification on my order, sent a quick email and had a response from the owner with a hour or two with the tracking number and apologies for the missing communication.my order was in fact out for delivery already. Great customer service and super quick delivery.I will definitely order for here again.
Cozy coffee shop hidden at the back of the bookstore. Fabulous customer service and a nice selection of foods enjoyed the kimchi sandwich. Lovely place to go for lunch or to get something to go!
Ordered a book for my Mam's birthday online. I emailed to check was it the version signed by the author. Got a quick response from Kevin confirming that it was and asking if I would like a personal message from the author! Book arrived on time with a lovely message birthday message to my Mam, which she was delighted with. Many thanks to Kevin and John! for the amazing service!
Nice shop. The man with longer hair usually at the front went out of his way to help me out on two specific occasions when I was living in the area which was much appreciated. The coffee shop in the back is a bonus and has good soup. Great overall vibe and nice curation.
I went here after passing by it for years and always wanting to pop in, as it’s a lovely bookshop with lots of content. However, I was treated extremely poorly by the man with glasses who is probably the owner at the front desk. I was very delicately flipping through a couple of pages of a book on depression/methods of comfort, I have a family member currently going through something really difficult and therefore took a photo of one excerpt I randomly turned to which was just a poem saying one is enough. This man came over without announcing himself, took the book out of my hands and said “no photos of the books if everyone took photos I couldn’t pay my staff also try not to open the book so much it will damage the spine we try to keep the books looking new for purchases.” He had no idea of course but I only took one snapshot that might have cheered up the person going through the difficult time because they are unable to read a whole book. How can one decide they want to purchase a book before looking a bit and seeing what it is about when it doesn’t have a description on the back? Many bookstores I’ve been to throughout the years let you sit and read excerpts or ponder books peacefully. Will not be returning here.
Only giving a one because I can’t give a zero. It’s overpriced, it’s all old books with not a great selection and and the people who work there are so rude and make you feel like you’re in the way and bothering them. My one piece of advice is to go somewhere else!!!
I send them two emails in relation to my order but they did not reply to any of my messages. I will write a third one. Though I have no faith in them answering. In my opinion, this attitude is not acceptable from a bookstore.
Always get a decent sandwich and coffee here. Bookstore is cool too. I'm assuming it's called bark because of the really friendly dog hanging around :
