The food is good, the staff are nice, accessability is decent. Double doors to get inside, wooden floor leading from the entrance to to bar, carvery and toilets. The seating areas are carpeted. About half the tables are on a platform a couple of steps up but there's still a variety of wheelchair accessible tables including a couple of large booths and a couple of tables with a view of a TV. There's also some outside seating near the outside children's play area and through the side. There's a lot of open space outside the disabled toilet. It's a little bit tight inside but still usable. When I went the changing table was broken so it didn't stay up but I assume they're working on fixing that. The emergency cord doesn't hang to the floor though and is stuck in a corner behind the toilet and a bin. I don't think it's going to be much use to anybody. The carvery is in the same open area as the disabled toilets with wooden and tile floor. There is a slight lip to get into this area. It is a bit awkward getting there without a car because the only way in is through the car entrance with no dropped curb or through a missing bit of fence at the back. It would be great if they had something like a gate leading from the path to near the main entrance. For drivers it's great because it's one of the only places in Horley with an on site carpark. The carpark is also very big and usually mostly empty. Staff have been nice every time we've been and so has the food.
As a member of the pub trade, I never want to see a pub close down but after my experience today I can sadly see why the Air Balloon is closing. For reference, I have been coming here since I was a small child I even had a birthday party here, and I now come with my 6 year old. I hadn’t been in a while, but today decided to bring my boy. Firstly, as we walked into the pub, my son tripped over the very uneven pathway at the entrance find photo attached, how someone hasn’t badly injured themselves on this I have no idea! All it takes is putting a cone or a wet floor sign or something similar on top to stop people tripping if you’re unable to fix it. Secondly, they seem to have changed the opening hours for the soft play, without any sort of update or announcement on their website or soft play. All it takes is a quick minute to put it on social media if you don’t have access to change the corporate website, or even updating your Google hours can be done yourself quickly. Granted, they did have a sign up; however given it was taped the wrong way round and on the exit to the pub, it wasn’t very useful. Then once we got in and had to pay full price for only 45 mins play, I made the mistake of ordering a flat white. What appeared was either a sachet of Nescafé with a splash of milk, or an americano with a bit of burnt hot milk chucked in. I will say the carrot cake was nice. After we left the soft play, we decided that we’d go into the pub to eat, the original plan to eat at soft play had gone out the window and my son was hungry. We ordered a 6 nugget meal for my son, and I got a halloumi Caesar salad, and a half pint of Diet Coke. My coke tasted flat, and barely of syrup, I told a staff member that their CO2 for their draught soft machine might have run out, as from experience I know sometimes it’s difficult to tell when just pouring the drinks. She assured me it was full, and told me the ice can sometimes make it flat news to me. My son couldn’t finish his food, and after trying his chicken nugget and having grease squirt out when I bit into it I understand why. I also didn’t finish my meal, granted the portion sizes were great for the price, however the quality wasn’t great as there was barely any Caesar sauce and the halloumi tasted sour. I didn’t ask for a refund, I’ll admit, but given the previous answer regarding my drink as well as everything else I didn’t have much hope of any resolution, plus I didn’t want to ask for any money back given the venues situation. It’s such a shame to see The Air Balloon in the sorry state it’s in now, and I completely feel for the staff, it seems as if they feel defeated by it all and have just given up, I don’t really blame them. The blame lies with Greene King for letting a once brilliant and busy place, get to the state it’s in now. I well and truly get that us in the pub trade have been through a LOT in the last few years, with covid, brexit, utilities crisis etc as well as rising drinks costs, but this just shows that when a brewery doesn’t provide enough support for its publicans, pubs go out of business. What a shame.
Saturdays here are quite busy! We had the carverys which were lovely! Very tasty, lots of choice, the Yorkshire puddings were top tier! Staff were friendly even during peak times, and the play area was an hours wait for entry. But overall, it is a great place to bring your friends and family, prices were very reasonable too!
We ordered a carvery, it had been sat there for a while, it had all gone hard. We ordered menu good before and that was impeccable. All fresh. All the staff are extremely polite and helpful. Atmosphere can be a bit larey sometimes, but it's a pub so what do you expect. Kid-friendliness: Have a play park. Parking: Lots of parking Wheelchair accessibility: Disabled parking and access all around restaurant.
The staff were lovely. We stopped for some food just before going to Gatwick after we tried another place that was fully booked whereas the Air Balloon had lots of free tables. Due to their association with a child's soft play centre there were a lot of families dining with young children.
Went here last night 1 jan 2023 with my wife and friends. We decided to have the roast which looked nice but when we started eating it we found the roast potatoes , sprouts and parsnips were quite hard, im quite sure i wouldn't have this again. The seats looked a bit tatty as we walked in aswell.Staff are pretty good though so not all bad . Dont think i would go again sorry
The staff are friendly. The acoustics are good and the play zone offer parent easy visibility whilst offering children a large safe yet challenging play space. I have been coming for 20 years to tots club. As an Ofsted outstanding childminder i keep coming because it has consistent standards and the playframe grows with the early years child. And offers different challenges the more their confidence and ability grows
Visited last week and seems to be under new management from the previous Fayre & Square. Improved menu, service and atmosphere including TV screens. The money menu is shorter but relevant meaning that they can do less but with more focus on quality. The food certainly tasted better. I think the carvery wasn't always there and it's another great addition. Overall very good and will be taking the family back there.
Really lovely visit. Gutted that the pub and playhouse is due to close soon to build a supermarket. It doesn't seem fair for the staff and regulars. Here's hoping that the plans fall through and the pub stays open x
Friendly, reasonably priced, open later 9n some days. Its a good place to allow children to let off steam and adults can enjoy either a reasonably priced coffee or alcoholic beverage.
