Hostile door staff who very obviously enjoy their little bit of power. We didn't expect much when we arrived, and sure enough it is an average enough venue, reasonable DJ, clientele, prices etc. However, one of our group went outside to make a call and despite agreeing this with the door staff, was then refused re-admission for no apparent reason. Door staff very clearly enjoyed 'messing' with us and being as difficult as possible.
I wouldn’t even give 1 star. Horrible door staff treating and charging all people all sorts of money. Appallingly treated. I wanted to go and find my boyfriend, and all they did was take the p**s and tell other people that my boyfriend wasn’t bothered and that I should go home. I wanted to go inside and look for him, I had previously paid but wasn’t allowed inside because of my ‘attitude’. Typical abuse of power
After walking for 20 minutes in the rain, myself and several friends arrived at Agora expecting a great night. However upon arriving we were told our group 6 males and 2 females had too many guys and therefore we were told that we're not allowed in. While waiting to speak to a manager and the promoters who also work for my venue we saw at least 7 males enter the venue who the security clearly were familiar with. When I stepped up and asked the security guard bald with ginger beard if I could just ask him a question he put his hand up in my face and said no in an incredibly rude manner. Being a bar Manager myself I was appalled at the behaviour of this man. Why bother working in a customer facing role? While the bartenders were extremely nice, unfortunately the encounter with the security fella really made our night sour. I'd recommend elsewhere to have a good night
Just thought I'd post to let the staff know that the bouncer working the queue on Saturday the 17th of March was making people pay £5 for entry. This was per person, not for a group. I asked what the money was for as Agora has always been free, and he replied " to pay him for standing in the cold". I'm not against paying for entry, especially so cheap in comparison to the amount we were planning to spend on dinks, but not to some power playing security guard. So me and friends said no and he told us to "go away" in less nice terms. I stood and waited to see if he would do it to the next were people, and he did. Each and every one. I'd say about 50% chose to pay and 50% chose to leave. I can only imagine how much lost revenue that is for the bar, if each person pays around £20/30 for drinks in a night. Anyway, we went on to OMG, so not a problem. They made a lot of money from our drinks and £6.50 entry which we were more than happy to pay to the club on entry.
I had a terrible experience at this bar/club yesterday. My phone had died and I needed it to order an uber. I found a socket to charge it for a few minutes so that I could get safely home and the bouncers refused to let me do this, he came inside to unplug my charger himself and then ordered me to leave the venue. As a young girl who is new to Bristol it put me into a very unsafe position walking the streets with a dead phone. Awful.
Not massively impressed with this place. Wasn't busy and had to wait outside for a while in the cold. Security staff are ignorant and rude. Inside its a good vibe, drinks are ok, its not massively overpriced. Dance floor is spacious, maybe get some better door staff.
DJ would not play the song I requested even though it said requests could be made after 1. Several people requested the same song but he would not play it. Was talking to a girl in the toilets and she said she knew him and he would not play anything other than his set list. I also spoke to one of the barmaids and she agreed timber was a good song. But he wouldn't play anything else other than the set list made by the manager. We're going down I'm yelling timber
Agora is an ok bar, usually fairly busy later on at night but not rammed due to £2 drinks offers. It is a bit dingy and does have a fairly lofty aire of cheapness about it and sticky floors. Alright for a cheap night or a quick stop off.
My last resort for any night out! Cheap drinks, music not bad, friendliest bouncers, and nice little lounge area at the top. Toilets dubious but who cares at the end of a night! Great memories here
Poor - fair doesnt really do this justice - Absolutely appalling customer service. Accidently left my suit jacket in the cloakroom on a night out but still had the ticket. I dont live in Bristol so have tried to contact them via the only number they have but no-one ever answers. I tried visiting just after 4 on a wednesday but they werent open only opening hours i found online suggested they would be. Came back the day after a bit later and managed to find someone to talk to; he couldnt really tell me much but let me look in the cloakroom and my jacket wasnt there - asked if he knew if they were moved them after a few days if not collected? - he said to come back in 3 hours to see the manager. I came back as advised but the manager refused to see me. I left my phone number with the barman and asked him to call me, even if it was to say it was gone. Have not heard back. its now been over a week since then and i have accepted that my jacket is gone. To be fait it isnt a bad bar but trying to get hold of anyone who works there is impossible - good job i didnt want to book it for a party. So in summary dont accidently leave anything there - you arent likely to get it back.
