Access Now was established in 1990. The focus of the business was then the market of general locksmiths both domestic and commercial. In those days available technology was fairly limited, and the idea of "non-destructive" tools and methods was largely unknown.
For the purpose of emergency opening, whether for an ordinary household door or a high security safe the accepted method of entry usually involved the application of some form of drilling. Although at that time "British Standard" locks were available they were nowhere near as in common use as they are today. Consequently, developments in the locksmith’s armoury somewhat lagged behind. During the nineties Access Now developed various analytical devices which would allow locks and containers to be opened without any apparent trace.
