Located in the beautiful museum gardens, St Mary's Abbey ruins are truly stunning. You can immerse yourself in your imagination of how beautiful and peaceful St Mary's Abbey would have been in its heyday. I'd like to explore the museum on my next visit to find out more about the history of this architectural beauty. A must for anyone who loves architecture and history.
An impressive structure one could only wonder how majestic it must have looked once. And to know that it was built almost 1000 years ago... Well worth a visit. Nice grounds you can walk around in take pics etc.
Free admission, along with the other highlights of Museum Gardens, certainly worth a visit.
Ruins of this historic abbey may be visited in the grounds of the Yorkshire Museum. Quite a lot of the church remains, as well as foundations of orher buildings. Nice views to river & Minister.
While the Abbey is worth a visit, it is definitely not an art gallery! This description confuses the Abbey with St Mary’s Coppergate, a quite separate building
W hat a wonderful setting for the York Proms. A relaxing peaceful gardens with historic ruins. A great place to have your lunch and stop for an ice cream on a sunny day.
Came here yesterday with a few friends and we took some photos and we had a right laugh then went and sat under the big trees to cool down it was lovely we all live in york and we come and visit different places round york we call ourselves the kyra ladies
Lovely gardens with abbey ruins in the background and museum facade. Nice place to relax especially with babies or kids.
This may be my favorite place in York. Stunning site of the old abbey St. Mary's Abbey is situated in a lovely area. Not much remains of the Abbey itself, except some parts of a couple of walls and plenty of rocks. The gardens are beautiful and they make for a lovely picnic spot!
Way to go Henry! You put the Viking raid on Lindisfarne to shame. Remember the Dissolution of the Monasteries 1536-39!
