We visit the nature reserve castle lake which is accessed from here
Bishop Middleham  is an attractive village steeped in history.
The nature reserve is looked after by Durham bird club,Northumbria water  and local landowners and consists of freshwater lake /margins and grasslands plus some mature woodland and scrubland too 
It has a capacity to host a number of species and is one of those spots where virtually anything can turn up
Recent Hawfinch sightings underline this and regular visitors include cornbuntings and  yellow wagtails
There is a lovely old school bird hide near the lake but you need a key from Durham bird club to be able to access this

Good village park. Childrens play area, basket ball court, trim track and skateboard area plus full ball pitch
