Eight of us went to this restaurant last night. One of us paid for 2 'groupon' deals 4 people eat for £58 ie £14.50 per person This was described as 2 courses but when we arrived at the restaurant we were informed that this would only cover 1 starter and 1 main per person, no rice, no naans, no vegetable sides which, in my opinion is NOT 2 courses. At the end of the night, including drinks the total bill including the groupon vouchers came to £198.95. Our drinks comprised of 5 people having 2 drinks each plus 1 glass of white wine, 1 half of lager and lime and the 8th person just drinking tap water. The icing on the cake was to discover, after paying the bill, that there was a board outside offering 4 courses for £8.95 per person which means we could have eaten for £71.60, with 2 more items per person, plus the cost of the drinks. Even assuming the drinks were £5 each, which is somewhat excessive, this would have made our total bill come to £131.60! To make matters worse it was at least an hour after arriving that we received our starters and another hour after that our main courses, most of which were only luke warm. All in all not a very good experience and we will definitely not be going back.
Zaal has the best Indian food in Colchester. I have used the restaurant and their takeaway facilities and everytime the food is always first class. Staff are very friendly and always a good atmosphere. The restaurant is very clean throughout and the prices are reasonable. I would definitely reccomend Zaal
Disgusting! Food took over two hours and when asking politely if there was an issue we were rudely spoken to. Having tried to order for delivery they were even more rude. Will take money and then will not deliver! Be warned they care nothing of customer service and would rather spend their time being rude to customers.
