Ysgol Clywedog

Story

Ysgol Clywedog, is a comprehensive school which serves parts of the town of Wrexham in north-east Wales.Ysgol Clywedog is located in the south-west suburbs of Wrexham. The school takes its name from the nearby River Clywedog. The school's name was chosen by the public in a competition which the governors of the school judged.HistoryIn 2001, Wrexham County Borough Council decided to reorganise the secondary schools of Wrexham to solve the problem of surplus places and to update ageing infrastructure by merging the three town schools. The Groves High School, St Davids High School and Ysgol Bryn Offa were closed in July 2003. This was opposed by several staff, parents and pupils of all three schools, and a petition bearing more than 1000 names was made during 2002. The Welsh Assembly Government reinforced the local councils decision. In 2003 two new schools were established on the sites of St.Davids and Bryn Offa. In the same year work began on the new schools. The Groves site was used to house Rhosnesni High School in 2003/04 and Ysgol Clywedog in 2004/05 Both Ysgol Clywedog and Rhosnesni High School were dubbed "super" schools by the media and the local council and were designed to cater for 1200 pupils each.PerformanceIn March 2013 it was announced that the school had been put into special measures due to poor performance. The Estyn (the equivalent of Ofsted in England)January 2013 report, said that the school was 'Unsatisfactory' in several areas, the worst of the four judgement grades that could be used By March 2015 the school was removed from special measures following significant improvements in exam results and the quality of teaching. The school achieved record exam results in 2014 and 2015. It was chosen as one of the 40 'Pathway to Success' participants in the Schools Challenge Cymru; a programme designed for schools anticipated to have the best potential to deliver swift and positive improvements for learners.

This is a great school and I hope my son enjoys gaining his confidence and education in a safe and nurturing environment. Our experience has been fantastic and the support on offer is exceptional. Any problems have been dealt with without delay and in a caring manner. Very happy with this school. I'm expecting great opportunities for my son who is going into year 9 today xx

This school is awful. If your thinking about sending your children here think again! The teachers have no respect what so ever. They have refused to teach us the majority of them and if I walk out that hall with no GCSEs I'll know where and who to blame. The new heads have made it an uncomfortable place to be. They don't solve problems they have made themselves. They have a code of conduct that they don't follow themselves. The depty head is the worst, a few of us have witnessed her physically pushing students out of her way she waves arms around in your face for no reason at all. They have even deleted most of people's own opinions because they don't want a bad name! They didn't let half of us to prom for pathetic worthless reasons so we had a better night anyway 🙂

As a parent of a child who has attended this school all I can say is they are unhelpful, I had issues with my daughter who was unwell at asked the school for help no response. I had Mr Brown Ringing me advising me if my daughter was late again I would be fined I advised as a parent once on the school bus that is my job as a parent done and advised they should have a teacher meet the bus if they go missing off the bus, also if My daughter did not attend school I would receive letters about her attendance but yet they can exclude children for a week and then school is obviously not that important. I found that all the school care about is their results and targets to Estyn. They say let's work together yet they can't return your calls maybe if they gave me the support my child needed at the time then things may have got dealt with earlier but to stop children from attending their shirt signing yet was not advised at all that she was unable to attend is my view of the teachers bullying the children back and maybe they should question why the children rebel. The school was in special measures due to their teaching maybe they need to be retrained as far as I'm concerned the school is a joke and I would not put my dog in there, so please as a parent think twice before choosing this school they do not help or respond to matters long as you do what they want they couldn't care about the children they just stats!!!!

As many have seen in the papers that the school has had bad press with the polish and English leaflet situation and has not long come out of special measures, the schools saying is 'being the best we can be' I do not believe that this is the case as many teachers cannot control there classes and eventually give up due to this my grades have dropped! I didn't have the worst 4 years but my 5th year was definitely my worst and can't wait to leave there now The teachers are very unprofessional and only listen to one side of a story, they do not discipline the right people and it's always the same people! The school is terrible and I will be glad to leaving as I have had nothing but grief the school has gone downhill this year and I advise you not to send your child here! As our teacher found out we wrote this he refused to let us out the gate after our exam this caused us to jump and hurt myself!! Also my friend suffered some injuries that could affect her future!! Something needs to be done before it's too late😅

My experience in ysgol clywedog was awful the teachers are a disgrace they have no respect for anyone, they never resolve the problems in the school. There was one teacher in particular who i never got on with not mentioning any names (mr mcdonald) he once told me he never liked, i would not send your children to this school because it is horrible.
