Whenever I visit this hospital for outpatient appointments the staff are always pleasant helpful and happy to give advice . Today I visited to the miner injuries dept what a difference to the Royal gwent or ysbyty ystrad fawr . Where the staff can barely be bothered to even look at you here the visit was pleasant and cheerful in every aspect of my visit . . Well done ysbyty AneurinBevian
My mum was in here for 3 weeks, there is no rehabilitation at all my mum never walked once in there . She was a risk of falling and she used to go to the toilet by her self, she fell out of bed and they tried to fob me off by saying my mum crawled to the bottom of the bed and fell out my mum can't move ...I asked my mum how it happened and she said she rolled out of bed ,so no rails were up . So for the next 2 1/2 weeks she was too frighten to go to bed so she slept in a chair. Her legs turned to like elephant legs as they were not elevated, I had to keep saying to the nurses that her legs were getting worse, they took no notice . After 3 weeks they sent her home nearly dead ,they didn't even tell me that she only had a few weeks to live the drs that come out to the house when they are discarded told me it was a shock to as as you can imagine, they told me that my mum had a urine infection 2 weeks before she came out and they didn't give her anything for it ,it's disgusting and I'm outrage at the the fact that they just can't be bothered there ,luckily as soon as she can home the dr put her on antibiotics straight away and she is doing great now . They she all be ashamed of them self. Do not send your elderly at that hospital because they will kill them .
My son passed away last week at this hospital. He could not have been cared for any better if they tried. I’ll be forever grateful.
I have visited quite a few times but live away and on those times I'm sad to see that the patient gets almost no staff apart from medication or going for scans, I get staff are very busy and understand, but there should be someone to pop in for a little chat otherwise they are left nearly 24-7 if no relatives to visit it's sad until the car broke we made sure everything was ok but four days in and like I was told it's like the Mary Celeste
I cannot find anything positive to say in regards to the overall service provided to patients and family at this hospital. The communication is non existent, phoning reception gets you passed through to the ward but the line goes dead. Trying direct call yourself sees the same situation. Information that should be passed to you upon a family member passing away, just did not happen, and the whole situation of losing a loved relative has been exacerbated by an incredibly poor communication ethos here.
