I’ve been in a lot of cathedrals in the USA, Mexico, Guatemala, England, Canada and France. York Minster is one of the most beautiful, and easily beats out Westminster. I’d much rather see the stunning architecture than walk on a bunch of famous dead people. The lighting is incredible. I highly recommend climbing the stairs up to the tower. The views were amazing and it was 100% worth the $15 we paid.
A must see if visiting York, outstanding building, you can spend several hours here, so much to look at and you can go up to the tower but be prepared for hundreds of steps in an enclosed space, definitely worth it if you’re able to. Lovely shop when exiting too, great to get some souvenirs.
York Minster is an amazing place. The building is beautiful and very impressive. Inside is calm and full of history. The staff were kind and helpful. I really enjoyed the visit and would happily come back again. A must see in York.
A visit to York Minster is nothing short of breathtaking—one of those rare places that genuinely lives up to its reputation and then quietly exceeds it.nFrom the moment you approach, the sheer scale and grandeur of the architecture are striking. The intricate Gothic design, soaring towers, and detailed stonework feel almost otherworldly, while inside, the vast vaulted ceilings and world-famous stained glass windows create an atmosphere that is both peaceful and awe-inspiring. Every corner seems to tell a story, whether through centuries-old carvings, memorials, or the subtle play of light through the glass.nWhat makes the experience even better is the value for money. Entry is £20, or £26 if you want to include access to the tower—and it’s absolutely worth the extra. The climb rewards you with panoramic views over York that are simply unforgettable. Even better, your ticket isn’t just for one visit—you can reuse it as many times as you like over the next 12 months, which is incredibly generous and encourages you to return and take it all in at your own pace.nThe guided tours are another highlight. The guides are knowledgeable, engaging, and clearly passionate, bringing centuries of history to life in a way that never feels dry or overwhelming. You come away not just having seen a beautiful building, but actually understanding its significance and the stories behind it.
Amazing, amazing, amazing! As if York lacked things to see and do...you could spend all day in the Minster, taking in the history.nThe building itself is beautiful, grand, and awesome in every sense of the word. Staff are kind, offer guided tours aplenty and there is ample signage for those who prefer self-guided.nI loved the announced prayers and being invited to say prayers with the clergy.nHighly recommend you head downstairs for a tour of the undercroft. Quite rich and informative.
