Beautiful stroll along the wall was a perfect start to our day in York. You are able to see stunning views of all areas of downtown, the York Minster and some lovely gardens of the locals. It was surreal to walk along this wall, as someone who loves medieval history.
Spectacular Tourist AttractionnMy family and I ventured around York Wall during our UK visit in Aug 2024 for which we found it quite interesting with full of history. Narrow, clean, and free; it had a lot of signage explaining the history of the area in great detail with some areas dating back since 71AD! Highly recommended
You can walk a complete circuit around the city centre on the walls, apart from a few short sections. The whole walk is about 1.5 miles. I have attached a map. Doing the walls is one of the highlights of visiting York. Not recommended for small children, as some sections are not fenced in. Also lots of steps!
The City Walls of York are certainly not spectacular. But we found it a pleasant way to reacquaint ourselves with the old capital. Walking around the old ramparts is certainly not possible everywhere in the world. So here in York, go for it.
Great to visit York and walk the city walls, around 1.9miles long it was a good trip around the city, nice views, and take in the history of the city. Certainly good to see and do and it’s free!
