Renewing my IR, or revalidating the stupid thing, or whatever it's called that I'm doing right now at Booker Aviation in the Twinstar. I can honestly say that the instructor I have there is perhaps the best I have had, and I have done a lot of IR training nationwide over the years. Perhaps it would be indiscreet or inappropriate to name him...ah...what's the harm? His name is Kevin. Every instructor I have had at Booker has been great, Terry also has helped me with the transition to FMS PFD. Great bunch!

An outstanding place that is under the usual threats, from locals complaining about noise, to the council hiking up the rent in recent years. I trained here with the excellent Wycombe Air Centre, long before it was sold to the Cabair Group. I have full confidence WAC will have maintained its super-high standards. If it can get ME through a PPL in relatively short order, you will do just fine! It's still a busy training airfield, with tug-launched gliders thrown in for good measure and helicopters charging about frightening everybody as well. I remember going to my car after a busy day training and it was dusk, the last few gliders just coming into land. I went to watch by the fence near the coffee shop, The Pad, as the last one was on finals. It was actually pretty dark and I was surprised it hadn't landed already. There was little light left as it came in, but - as it was what seemed like just about 50 feet above the runway - it climbed quickly, did a loop and came down and then landed. I couldn't believe what I had seen, I looked round to see if anyone else had and through the window of The Pad, there was a rather beautiful girl also watching and clearly equally astonished. Just for a moment we were both looking at each other open-mouthed, sharing the amazement. It really had happened. Time and money have conspired against me visiting much, I dropped in about two years ago to experience the usual busy airspace and super-professional ATC. I recommend a visit by air, or by car. 5 stars given to help counter the silly one star given by a reviewer who thinks this place exists to get him a cup of coffee. Note: the original control tower - the one that saw me safely from my first solo through to general flight test - is now an exhibit at the remarkable Brooklands Museum. However, it's just sat on a roof there, decaying, which is a shame. It would make a good greenhouse. Excellent work and any neighbours reading, please don't complain about any noise, or low-flying aircraft. It's the sound and sight of the future of flight, of air travel, which is one of our greatest achievements as a civilisation. It's unfolding in front of you. Celebrate it.

Great place to come if you enjoy spotting light aircraft and gliders. A trip to 'The Pad' offers food, drinks and somewhere to sit and watch planes and helicopters take off and land. Brilliant if you have kids.

What a miserable, dirty and unfriendly place this is. Went on a Sunday as the roadside sign said it was open and offered a warm welcome to everyone, the coffee sign outside suggested it was open and the sign on the door said it was open. Went inside and it was filthy and dark and there were three people out the back who said they had had a function on the previous night and they were still trying to get it back in shape, how bad must it have been as it was now 1400 and didn't look as if anything had been done and we were made to feel very unwelcome. What a dump.

Nice bar and restaurant where you can watch the helicopters, gliders and aeroplanes.
