This was the second time I have stayed here 16-19 Dec., and it was just as warm, friendly and welcoming as before. There is a great team here. The rooms are warm and clean, and I really did enjoy a good night’s sleep throughout my stay. The team worked very hard to ensure my stay was perfect. Things have been improved, more meal options, and now a superb Sunday roast/lunch is provided. It represents excellent value for money. It takes time to sort out little niggles like dated wallpaper, older furniture and the surroundings. Things have clearly been done and the team are aware of what still needs to be done. All-in-all I truly like this hotel, edge of Dartmoor, ideal for peace and quiet, hiking/rambling, and not far from Plymouth.
3 night stay in B&B room. Clean, comfortable, peaceful, welcoming and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble and my room had everything I needed and more. Also has a top floor apartment and a dog-friendly self catering annex. Lovely grounds for a wander, read a book or bird watching. Beautiful views towards Heddon Valley, watching the low cloud roll in from the Atlantic then roll back out. Cracking breakfast to fuel a day of walking. Chatting to other guests, they had all stayed before and keep returning. Direct access to the wonderful Woody Bay Station on the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway, currently only 1 mile long but a lovely place with a great vibe - and what a view! Bus stops outside if you need or want to leave the car at the hotel, also not far from Lynton or Lynmouth for a taxi. Thank you to Desi for a wonderful stay.
Have just returned from a 4 night break at Moorlands and cannot rate both the house and the owners highly enough. The room was comfortable and the jar of complimentary strawberry jam was a lovely touch. Tea/coffee tray was well stocked everyday and the "guests" fridge downstairs meant you could buy and keep snacks and drinks to hand. The breakfasts were amazing with a lovely choice of both cooked dishes, cereal, pastries etc. Mark and Desi treated everyone as their friends and the lounge/study was a lovely place to while away the evenings. The garden was a lovely space to walk around, with fantastic views over the valley and the narrow gauge railway at the bottom of the garden was an added bonus. One word of warning, if you rely on your mobile phone, there is pretty much no signal unless you walk up the drive to the road, but to be honest, it was a nice break away from them and the WiFi was more than adequate. Will be going back again
An excellent location for touring the local area. Lovely house and gardens which are kept immaculate. Easy parking, good WiFi, lovely breakfasts and so quiet and peaceful. The hosts are so welcoming and friendly. Nothing is too much of a problem. We had a lovely stay here and would not hesitate to return. We used it as a base to do some casual walks. Lynton is only a few minutes away and many other lovely locations are within 30 minutes.
Lovely hotel set in vast gardens. Our apartment was spotless. Private outside seating area on gravel. The owners were great and made us very welcome. There is private access to the steam railway station. There is a bus stop just outside the train station for buses to Lynmouth/Lynton, Barnstaple and the Exmoor Coaster open top hop on hop off bus.
It is a family run hotel. Hotel is clean and has good Internet connection. They are more like hosts than hotel people .Beautiful garden. Room are excellent . TV worked well. Breakfast was brilliant. Lynton is near by for evening meals. Couple worked hard to accommodate our needs. I wish they could provide some sandwiches for evenings if you don’t want to go out after busy day. Location is away from hustle and bustle of town. There are no other employed apart from husband and wife .they have children ,so they need to have some time for family hence no dinner. Brilliant but you must have car to go any where from hotel. Parking is fine. I would surely recommend it.
Mark and his wife are absolutely welcoming hosts who kindly recommended walks and places around. The hotel is located in a beautiful spot and the views from the breakfast room is just so good. In a clear night the number of stars you'll spot is breathtaking. Rooms are huge and clean. I do prefer a harder mattress though just to mention improving possibility.
What a lovely couple who run this place. Excellent standard of accommodation, cleanliness outstanding. Breakfast menu is ravishing. We had a couple of nights here, it's so quiet and comfortable, we had such wonderful sleep. The apartment the kids had was equipped for self catering. Plenty of interesting books, some games, steam railway next door... this place was ideal for us. Many thanks for a stay we will certainly repeat. Chris & Tania
Loved our stay at the Moorlands b&b... just peace and quiet away from the noise of everyday life.. Desi a.k.a Daisy was very welcoming and lovely and cooks a tasty breakfast. Definitely hope to visit again in the near future.Rooms: 5/5
Beautiful location and absolutely lovely hosts who have been fantastic! With the current situation, they made us feel very safe and have all the measures in place. We really enjoyed the stay here and would certainly be back. The place is attached to the Woody Bay train station which is great.
