Woodhenge is worth a quick stroll around if you’re building up to the wonderful Stonehenge but probably not as a stand-alone visit.. it’s an interesting bit of archeological history but of course the wood structure no longer remains so it’s a recreation of what would have been.. it’s a pretty field though, in a beautiful part of the world. There’s a very small sign on the gate requesting no dogs that we missed on the way in but we weren’t the only one letting our companion enjoy the space.
Not exactly Woodhenge! More like concrete bollard henge I get why they have done it to mark the wodden post holes but it would have been much more spectacular if they had remade it like the artist impression on the info boards or with taller wooden posts. Not many parking spaces so could get busy on a sunny day. Very good info boards and a nice little picnic stop just off the busy A303.
Parked up here before walking over to Stonehenge, and it is pretty much the same as many other ancient monuments, with a great artist impression but the actual view was underwhelming. It is great that these places are preserved, but in my opinion would be better if restored to what they might have been.
We stopped here unintentionally and we got happy that we did. We met a guy who explained to us patiently with showing us his notes and papers to understand the story around this place. It was a wonderful experience.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Less well known than Stonehenge, though equally still and grounding and beautiful. The parking lot only holds like five cars, and the site is much easier to walk to than others. It's quite interesting and although they don't know what it was used for, you can feel the energy when you get there. And it's free!! Only about 10 min from Stonehenge.
Lovely, we return as often as the weather allows us at it's best in the spring/summer/early autumn, as we can enjoy the wonderful panorama of rolling green hills, lush forests and vegetation and also clear, blue sky not forgetting, of course, brilliant sunshineVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
I wish some of me would put giant poles into the spots where the originals ones were... Imagine the impact this site would have looking like it did when it was built. But its still spiritual... I mean it's about an alignment to nature and time and obviously meant something to our ancestors due to the finds that have turned up on the site. A childs burial, other human remains placed carefully into the ground and other artifacts ffrom thousands of years ago. Nice spot for a picnic and a starting point, with free parking, to walk over to StoneHenge.
Great place for a walk, lots of signposts telling you the history of the area which I found really interesting. The sheep are relatively friendly and by that I mean they run away when you approach them, and if you're up for a slightly longer walk took us about an hour you can reach Stonehenge for free!Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
Lovely walk around see the walks of history and you take a step back in time and see what was. Amazing and very informative to read what they found. Walk more and you will see stone henge was told about 25mins walk. Too wet today.
Nice to visit if passing, good place to stop for a picnic as there are picnic benches next to the site. A shame that they used concrete to mark the post sites and not wood posts but I suppose it makes it more accessibleVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
