An interesting aspect of milling. Great to see how it all works using tidal power. Very well set out and quite a bit for children to see and do. Great that it has been saved. Nice setting amongst other interesting places. Check website for wheel turning times.Visited onPublic holidayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
A good learning place to visit while enjoying & learning at the same time! Very friendly staff Selling a very strong wholemeal flour stoneground at The Woodbridge Tide Meal since 1793helping to continue keep this museum alive for many more generations & when you finish there is a hutch selling delicious hand made Stefan’s Suffolk Scoop ice creams

Very interesting. One of the last tide mills around. There's a video to watch first then a volunteer shows how the tide works the mill with a working model. Very good demonstration and explanation. If the tides right, then the wheel will be running. There are also two more floors to explore. Some buttons to press and a corresponding voice tells you about life in the mill. An exciting mouse name hunt quiz for children. Small shop selling flour and souvenirs. Lovely views of river, boats and birds. Small entry fee and donations keep the mill running.
This is a really interesting museum of working industrial archeology. We learnt that there were 300 flour mills powered by tidal energy. The gear wheels have replaceable wooden gear teeth for instant repairs. The curator was knowledgable and interesting. Of course the machinery can only run when the pool has been filles and the tide is out!
Great place to visit. Interesting workings of this tide mill makes it more unique then the ordenery water mill . Well worth the time to explore this unique mill
Intetesting historical mill. Good for a visit
Came here as a way to extend our day in Woodbridge, just on the off chance. Not knowing much about tidal mills, we received a thorough explanation from one of the staff here who demonstrated a working model and showed two videos of it working. In short, the tide comes in to fill a pond which can then be emptied via the water wheel which turns the cogs and stones that grind the grain to make the flour. Sadly we had missed the tide for the day, but I am told that to see the mill working, check with the web site first before visiting. Another member of staff showed us around and rest of the ground floor. There are another two floors with exhibits. The staff here are ever willing to explain the history and inner workings of this wonderful mill. There's also a hunt for the children to do and many buttons to press for them. Boards explaining the history are easy to read and in large enough font for all ages to read.
Great museum set in a working tide-powered water mill, apparently one of only two in the UK. The building has interesting displays on the mill history and the science of grain farming and milling. Best of all is the working demonstration.
The tide mill always makes for an interesting photo, the white building contrast against the background and the daylight on the mill changes with the time of day and also the time of year.
