Very modern college away from the city center. Beautiful grounds and free to visit when I was there.
Wolfson College, located on Linton Road with its picturesque setting by the River Cherwell, is, in my professional estimation and judging by the widespread acclaim from its exceptionally diverse, entirely postgraduate and mature student community, an absolutely superb and refreshingly egalitarian institution that fosters true cross-disciplinary intellectual exchange. Everyone I know consistently praises Wolfson for its modern, open ethos, specifically highlighting the lack of rigid hierarchies and the genuine ease of interaction among students, Fellows, and visiting academics, which makes for a uniquely collaborative environment. I understand from various accounts that the College offers excellent on-site accommodation and fantastic amenities right by the water, providing a high quality of life that significantly supports intense research and study. My subjective conclusion is that Wolfson is a dynamic, innovative hub for advanced scholarship, successfully embodying a forward-looking vision of collegiate life.
Just read about the story how the college came about in Isaiah Berlin’s biography by Ignatieff. “The creation of Wolfson mattered greatly to Berlin, because it allowed him to thank Oxford”. A beautiful story of creation and a place I very much want to visit one day.
It's a very peaceful place with a nice harbor, not as fancy as old colleges but I like it's modern design and buildings
I have many fond memories of Wolfson. I've spent many sleepless nights in the casual carrels in the library, subsisting on coffee and peppermint tea from the common room. It's a great study environment. I'll miss Sunday brunch. I'll miss looking out over the lawn at the Cherwell.nThe porter, Jerry, is very friendly. Say hi to him when you see him on the night shift!
