About

Luxury 5 star accommodation in Alderley Edge - less than one minute's walk from the centre.

Story

Wizards Thatch at Alderley Edge dates back over 400 years and lies at the foot of The Edge, a reputed mystical sandstone outcrop which stands guard over the Cheshire Plain at Alderley Edge. It takes its name from a local legend. On the very road where this encounter is said to have taken place lies the thatched cottage - an old dwelling when this tale was first recorded in 1753.

Wizards Thatch at Alderley Edge offers something for everyone - superb weekend breaks, nights to remember as the romantic choice for your wedding night or honeymoon, or a luxurious escape from the rigours of modern living be it a night or a week.

Once you have entered through the thatched porch you step back in time and enjoy the truly unique experience that is created within its centuries old walls. Our three 5 star suites are ideal for visiting this Cheshire celebrity hotspot which is less than ten minutes from Manchester Airport.

Wonderfully quirky and genuine 1700's cottage in a great location for restaurants and hiking around Alderley Edge. Just five minutes walk from Alderley Edge train station. Ian was a lovely, helpful and informative host. Thanks Ian for a great stay!Rooms: 5/5
We stayed in the Camalot Suite which was really cozy and clean with lots of interesting knick knacks, books and records. There is a fridge with milk and on the table tea and coffee. Upstairs the four poster bed was sooo comfortable the bedroom also had a shower and tv. Opposite the bedroom there was a bathroom with a bath. The main street is literally on your foorstep and we enjoyed the tea shops, charity shops and the local pubs where we had a couple of wonderful meals. We also went to nearby Knutsford. We had a pleasant stay and Ian, the proprietor, was most informative and helpful. I would recommend that you give it a try for yourselves as it's so different from the usual Hotels and B and Bs and we enjoyed the refreshing change.
Ian is a great host. The cottage is a good place to stay in a perfect location, It is only 50 meters away from the shops pubs and restaurants we have stayed there a few times an would recommend it to everyone 10/10Rooms: 5/5
This is a beautifully decorated, rustic, enchanting hotel. The 400 year old building is very comfy and warm. An extremely relaxing environment. A fairytale feeling to the aptly named Wizards retreat. Welcomed by the owner Ian and introduced to the area, given plenty of ideas for eating and day out opportunities. The suite Merlin Suite was extremely comfortable, warm and a delightful place to stay. Cake, biscuits, teas and coffees and toiletries all included and of a high quality. Just an absolutely delightful stay which we plan to repeat to experience one of the other suites there.
A magic place in center of Alderley Edge. Located in a quiet area, authentic spirit that offers a unique stay experience. Suit is cosy, clean, feeling like home ! The bed is very comfy, sleeping like a baby. Ian is a very welcoming and caring host. Definitely a place to stay- it’s an experience!
I loved my stay at Wizards Thatch and will definitely stay again! This is more than a mere lodging. Not only is Wizards Thatch welcoming, warm, cozy, quiet and comfortable, it carries a sense of the deep and personal history of England, Alderley Edge and the myths and legends of Wizardry of 350 years ago. Deep sleep is easy in the comfortable bed. The genuine authentic welcome of Ian the kind and enthusiastic owner and Kelly the gentle and warm house manager gave me a sense that I belonged there. I highly recommend Wizards Thatch--truly a 5-star experience.
We stayed at Wizard’s Thatch at the end of April as a party of 5 for my daughters Hen Party booking the Camelot and Merlin suites. She is a huge Harry Potter fan and the Wizard’s Thatch could not have been more perfect! The host Ian is wonderful and gave me so much information as to where to eat/visit/park . Location is perfect - one of the party was pregnant so we needed to be somewhere close to the centre ….it was a 5 minute walk and Ian recommended some great bars and eateries. We decided on a meal at Gusto and were not disappointed- both food and service were great. Lots of really nice places for breakfast or brunch and fabulous car spotting!! .The Wizard’s Thatch has everything you need to self cater also - plenty of cutlery and crockery/ tea and coffee facilities . Hairdryers and Iron/Ironing board are also provided and plenty of loo rolls . Although we mainly stayed together in the main room of Camelot everyone had their own space and privacy at night. The beds were SO comfortable and amazing sound systems in the rooms. The properties have a really magical feel to them and look so beautiful at night . We plan to come back again later in the year for a girls weekend and can’t wait. Hot tip…book directly with the host for the best deal
What an amazing place! The host, Ian, communicated wonderfully throughout the booking process which is best done directly with the ‘wizards thatch’ website itself. The actual accommodation is magnificent and the only way to describe it is magical. There are wonderful walks nearby in an area steeped in history and the actual accommodation is right on the doorstep of some excellent bars and restaurants. We loved it and will definitely be booking again.
What a wonderfully magical place to stay!! Took my family there 8 year old daughter included and we thoroughly loved every minute! Every convenience you could want, fabulously presented in a very original and quirky way! So much to see and do both inside the rooms and outside. Located centrally to town, there are plenty of excellent bars and restaurants to enjoy, and the Wizards Cafe for breakfast is recommended, as is a trip to the edge itself! Can't wait to visit again!!!
Absolutely stunning from the start. Very warm and welcoming. The style of the building, the look of the place, the attention to detail that's been put in over the years was beautiful. Down to every detail. Very personal and romantic. Lots of choice for entertainment and refreshments. Entertainment wasnt needed though as there was so much to see around the room and gardens. Lots of nearby places to eat and visit. Good walks around the area. Ideal for couples wanting to get away for a romantic night away. Also Ian was very helpful on arrival taking the time out to help us get to know our surroundings. I intend to visit again. Love to see the gardens in summer
