Really interesting windmill with new cafe and car park. Great food in the cafe but the service was slow - perhaps because it's newly opened.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
Really well layed out, grandkids really enjoyed their visit. There is more to interest them than I expected. Good carpark and nice cafe. Public toilets too.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
By rule of thumb, our team of tour guides are super passionate, motivated and excited with this fantastic heritage site Ability cafe filled soda ftw as a wee tipVisited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
We had driven past this place a few times during its restoration and the building of the new facilities. I can’t remember what email it was that prompted me, but I bought tickets to go to its Easter Trail. The first good thing was the price of the tickets, excellent value for money, almost all the other Easter activities are awfully overpriced. We were welcomed by Laura and Robert from USEL which is the organisation that runs the Ability Cafe, which is a social enterprise. The Easter trail was great fun, and Roberts storytelling was really good and animated. Then we did a self led trail which took quite a while and encompassed all the areas of the site. Once completed the kiddies got a chocolate egg each. The windmill is beautiful, and all the other little areas fascinating, and there was some crafting to do too. The cafe is fab, a good selection and really keenly priced. Chips available for unadventurous kids like mine and also sandwiches toasties and sausage rolls and tray bakes. We spent almost three hours here, and had a wonderful time. For those that don’t enjoy crowded events this place is brilliant, and due to H&S reasons numbers are always limited. Now, if you want dancing bears and loud music this is not the place for you. It’s very much what you make of it, we home ed so the kids saw and learned new things, and also ran about and played in the open spaces, so it was a win win. To get into the Windmill proper you have to book a guided tour, but for a family of 4 it’s only £15! I couldn’t recommend Ballycopeland Windmill highly enough, we will be back soon for a tour, and another run about!
This warms my heart as a mother of a child with a learning disability it’s beautiful to see so many lovely staff when we go and gives me hope for miss 11s future. This is an all ability cafe but my goodness it is absolutely amazing from the yummy food to the excellent banter it’s perfect for our wee villageVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
I visited today with my four children and loved it from beginning to end. It's a beautiful place. We were shown around by Jean, despite the fact we hadn't booked a guided tour. This lady left her coffee to show us around and went above and beyond for us. My children all have additional needs, while some people can be nervous around them Jean was very happy to engage and answer all sorts of random questions, not all relating to the Windmill . What a lady! The little houses were quaint and the children got a go at milling floor and watching videos in the bottom one. The cafe was spotlessly clean and the guy in charge was very warm, friendly and attentive. The food was lovely, very generous portions with the kids meals. Outside there is a lovely chair for photos and the kids loved playing in the tunnel. They also had an amazing disabled changing facility, this is very important for me as a mother of sen children and something very few places I've visited actually have. I highly recommend this place.

Great cafe by the windmill, the welcome was warm and the cake was gorgeous. I'll certainly be popping in anytime I'm down this way again
