Amazing! It's such a bright and airy place compared to other cathedrals we have visited. And it has seen so much history that it's difficult to comprehend.nnWe have done two of the free hour-long tours and both guides were excellent. They told interesting stories in engaging ways, and pointed out details that visitors would never notice on their own. I definitely recommend the tours!
I can not tell you how much I enjoyed this cathedral. It was so beautiful, and we were able to hear the boys' choir perform. The attractions and displays were also fantastic.nnI have always loved Wessex history, and this place didn't disappoint.nnThe local guide was so knowledgeable, and it was a pleasure to meet him. I'm sorry we didn't remember his name.nnThis cathedral is one of my favorites.
At the cost of a £14 entry fee the Cathedral is just a little underwhelming. The long nave is very impressive and it is a shame the view was impeded by a huddle of red shashed volunteers involved in a personal conversion seemly oblivious to the visitors around them. We were told, quite incidentally, that the place would be closing to visitors early by a kind gentleman manning a temporary exhibition but he was unable to say why. No mention was made of this when we handed over our fourteen pounds upon entering the Cathedral. One lovely moment of our visit was when all visitors were asked to join in a moment of prayer reminding us all that this is a place of worship. This place should be visited and I do hope that some of the proceeds from the entrance fees are shared amongst the beautiful churches and cathedrals not fortunate enough to be located in such a popular area for well heeled tourists.
Winchester Cathedral is truly a gem and a place that never fails to amaze me, no matter how many times I visit. Each trip feels like a new adventure, filled with intricate details and rich history to discover. The architecture is stunning, with its soaring ceilings and beautiful stained glass windows that seem to tell a story of their own. The craftsmanship is remarkable, and it’s easy to get lost in the various carvings and designs that adorn the walls.nnWhat I particularly appreciate about the cathedral is its commitment to keeping things fresh. There are often fascinating exhibitions and events happening, which provide a unique twist each time I visit. Whether it’s art installations or historical displays, there’s always something new to engage with, making every experience feel unique.nnVisiting with my 19-month-old has been a delight as well. The vast spaces allow for plenty of exploration, and my little one loves wandering around, pointing at the various features and marveling at the grandeur of the surroundings. The cathedral is accommodating for families, making it a perfect spot for both adults and children to appreciate its beauty.nnOverall, Winchester Cathedral is a captivating place that combines history, art, and spirituality in a way that invites both reflection and exploration. I highly recommend it to anyone looking for a culturally enriching experience that offers something for everyone, time and time again.
One of the best cathedrals visited so far. Outside looks small but inside like a TARDIS! Tomb of Jane Austin. Definitely recommend the crypt tour as it's huge and full of history.
