Small but nice museum to visit, worthing to buy tickets online.nIt's good to visit with children as they can follow history steps through the rooms.nShop and toilets available.
Me, My dad, and my 2 daughters visited today. My daughters had so much fun with the hands on activities. The flour mill had them both entertained. If you go when it's quiet there is some parking behind the museum. Just tell the reception your number plate.nA good experiance.
An amazing collection of artefacts and information from prehistory to the present. It's one of those places that doesn't look that big from the outside, but then you spend three hours wandering through it. Very straightforward descriptions of what's on display, how and where it was found, and what it was likely used for. It would be a great place to start a trip to see Avebury and the associated and surrounding man-made features. We were planning to take a walk around there anyway, and now I feel like we'll have a much better feel for what we're looking at and its historical significance. There are also a number of enjoyable activities for children and my husband to try. Nice folks working there as well, who were quite happy to answer my questions. Also a nice gift shop with lots of books about the subjects discussed in the exhibits, and the surrounding area. Recommended!
This is an excellent museum. It’s small but has lots of original finds from the area - Neolithic, Iron Age & Medieval. Each area is well organized. We parked out front. I was in the area visiting the Stonehenge and Avebury areas. This museum along with the collections in Avebury and Salisbury are essential to understanding the sites you can visit.
We had a fabulous visit here this weekend, spending nearly 2 hours in the various rooms. The museum seems to be transitioning from an old style collection, where each cabinet is just a list of artefacts with detailed descriptions to a more interactive and wider ranging display. Some areas we just skimmed through but overall it was a fascinating history of the county and how it fitted in to the wider world. There were some more modern displays that helped a wider age range understand and appreciate the local history such as the ‘smells of wiltshire’ boxes. Definitely worth the entrance fee for a pleasant and unhurried way to improve awareness of our local history and environment.
