Absolutely great. If ever you need decent bargain priced wood cut quickly to the dimensions you desire by friendly and attentive staff - come here! Warning: Do not go to big DIY stores you will waste you time and money.
The knowledge and attitude of the staff at Whitten Timber are why I keep going back. If you are an enthusiastic DIYer they will take time to help, their range of product is fantastic. They aren't always the cheapest on price but good service always does cost a little.
I have reviewed this before. It is a specialist timber merchant but also carries a good stock of DIY. As for timber they supply many hardwoods as we as the regular soft woods. They will cut sheets to exact size and they have a milling facility for making decorative and awkward items like architraves and cornices. I wouldn't dream of going anywhere else for my work when it comes to timber.
Whitten Timber is one of the few suppliers that is actually a pleasure to deal with. The staff are extremely knowledgeable but never condescending, the prices better than the big chains and pretty much everything seems to be in stock all the time. They offer a reasonably priced cutting service and deliveries actually turn up when they say they are going to.
They helped me cut a special length of wood. They have many cool options of different types of wood. The inside is pretty sweet, definitely family friendly, and everyone was super chill.
Good range of some quality timbers. I've bought meranti and walnut planks here, cut to size. Usually have to wait a little while at the desk to get served. You can select your timber in the shop, get it wrapped, and have it delivered the next day. Close to Peckham bus station too!
Helpful and patient staff. They treat a rank amateur who is unable to hold a saw correctly just the same as an experienced professional tradesman. Good one!
If you are not a regular customer you won't get any customer service. I asked help from someone and very unwillingly someone pointed me to the right shelf. Did end up feeling that I was overcharged and looked the receipt when I got home and sure enough the sizes there were different from what I bought. I would avoid the place if possible.
Alibaba cave, for good a bad reasons. Loads of choice, prices vary a lot depending on the quality of wood. Have a good idea of what you're looking for before entering there.
Recently bought some timber cills there, following their advice, which cracked 2 weeks after being installed. Sent photos etc but they refused to accept any responsibility.
