Food is brill. Great place to have breakfast and lunch. Menu changeover is at 11:45 which is perfect if some of your party wants breakfast and others want lunch. Coffee is quite nice but not particularly special. Cakes are very good. Staff are wonderful and the venue itself is really nicely presented.
First visit to Whitegates today with friends and not disappointed after hearing good reviews about it. We all had a breakfast and it was superb! Beautifully cooked and quality fresh ingredients. Staff are very friendly and efficient. Also had a loom round the nursery plants and gift shop and went back for a coffee and a piece of cheesecake, again superb. The best garden centre I've been to for food. Highly recommend
It's always lovely to spend some time here & the food in the cafe is delicious. At my most recent visit I had Eggs Benedict from the breakfast menu - it didn't disappoint. The cakes are always very nice too. All the staff are friendly & helpful. I nearly always come away with something new for the garden, as there is a great range of products.
First visit today and what a gem of a place to visit. Even though its early autumn there were plenty of plants, planters and many sections were undercover which was perfect as my friend was on a mobility scooter. The cafe is a perfectly beautiful space, from the individually coloured chairs, the bench seats with beautiful floral backs, to the sumptuous array of cakes and treats on offer; its almost impossible to choose! The staff were so kind, helpful and friendly. We arrived and were quite a way down the queue to get in but the lady seating folks was cheerful, helpful and soon had everyone seated. Just watching others being served was a joy as the ladies delivered trays laden with goodies. My mum would have loved this place as tea is still served in pretty teapots, on trays. The ambience created made me want to stay all day and just enjoy. The garden centre staff were knowledgeable and kind, and quickly helped with requests.
My first visit,the staff welcomed me like I was a long term friend. I had soup and a toasted cheese scone and tasted delicious. I gave 5 stars because of 5 star service and food. I will be going back and recommend to all friends and family. Thank you for a wonderful visit
We got a real Christmas Tree for the first time this year from Whitegates and it has been fantastic. The tree lasted beautifully, we have just taken it down and had barely any fall - it really made our Christmas. The team were a wonderful help when we were selecting the tree, and helped getting the right size stand and getting it in the car too. We have always had a lovely experience at the cafe and shop too.
Great garden centre, it has plenty of choice and the outdoor area has a masive selection of plants. you will cover all your gardening needs here. Nice little cafe serving a good variety of food and drinks, always busy.
We love coming to Whitegates, we would have given 5 stars if just talking about their amazing cafe, where we had a fabulous lunch, but we felt the indoor plant selection was slightly lacking. This could be due to time of year of course, and it certainly wouldn't stop us returning.
"Welcoming Whitegates." It's been a while since I last wrote about Whitegates and, as a regular visitor, I thought I'd reflect on my experiences since my last review. To sum up, it's even better than it was three years ago! As far as plants are concerned it's the only place we buy from. The summer hanging baskets were spectacular. My wife is very attentive to feeding, watering and dead heading and consequently a long season of flowering is assured. Our winter baskets are now on display. Both seasons have received many compliments. All plants bought at Whitegates are healthy and good value. Gardeners of all persuasions will find something to meet their needs. Recently an extension has been built and a bigger variety of indoor plants is on display. Whitegates is a small garden centre and is limited in the range of non-gardening items it can offer. We often find birthday cards for family and friends in the shop. They also stock some clothing and items which you'd find suitable for gifts such as candles and smellies. Stock is adjusted according to the season and careful thought is given to what is suitable Finally there is the restaurant. We go there at least once a week for Sunday dinner lunch if you'd prefer,. We see many other couples and families who eat there regularly. We've made a good friend who we met in the queue and we meet up each Sunday. I still have the vegetarian option. My wife assures me that the meat option is excellent. Credit to Whitegates for catering for vegetarians; not everybody does. At another local eatery I was once offered the same as my wife, without the meat but with more vegetables or a seared cauliflower steak. For the same price as as with meat! Afternoon tea at Whitegates is excellent. My vegetarian option was at least as good as any other place which we've visited and better than some venues where we've spent twice as much. Throughout the week there is a a set menu which has good variety. If you arrive and find a long queue don't be deterred. Claire will see that you will soon be shown to a table and once seated you will be quickly served. One feature of Whitegates is the friendliness of the staff. No matter which department you are in you will always be attended to with a smile. They work very hard and I'd say that they all strive to see that every customer who leaves has had their best possible experience. Nothing is too much trouble for them. Congratulations if you managed to get this far. I didn't mean to write so much but I couldn't condense what I think about Whitegates into anything shorter.
Great garden centre. Lovely staff. Fab café. Be prepared to queue on busy days as it's ever so popular.
