We stayed here before visiting Nicky Henderson's stables. The room was perfect, set out over two floors with the bed downstairs and the bathroom upstairs, in converted stables. We ate in the Inn in the evening and the food was lovely. The lads in the bar were really friendly and helpful. Breakfast was superb too, with a good choice of what to have. The girl who served us in the morning was also great. Can't fault our stay at all. Would definitely stay here again.
Celebrating a birthday we used our local pub to accommodate some of our friends and family. 28.08.22. They returned the next day to continue our celebrations and all 3 couples having had their own rooms said that they were very happy with the accommodation, breakfast and service. Good to know and at the same time wishing Michelle and John continued success after recently taking over the pub. Well done and highly recommend. Mac and Karen. We were looking to take our severely autistic daughter out for a meal treat which is always difficult. Having been to the White Horse previously we felt confident it would be fine for her. The White Horse were fabulous in looking after us and ensuring the night was perfect. Even cooking her favourite dish which was not on the menu that night .
Nice old pub with low timber beams. Has its own car park and a nice beer garden out back. We had the fish and chips which was good quality. It’s a tad expensive here but otherwise fine.
I have read most of the reviews of this pub before writing my own and can only agree that this is a lovely old country pub in a super location. Sadly, that is where my positivity ends. We ate there with family who we had not seen for some considerable time and were told by some of our group that the food was usually very good. There was no welcome when we arrived, and it seemed to take an age to get drinks even though we were the only ones at the bar. We sat down at our table and them waited to order, after 25 minutes nothing had happened, so I approached the bar to find three staff members deep in conversation. When I attracted their attention to say we were ready to order it was almost as if I was being a pain and got, “Yeah be there in a minute mate”. Our starters followed sometime after and I have to say were very nice. Cue another overly long wait for main course which I think was atrocious. I had the steak burger which other members of our group had recommended. It was awful, undercooked potentially reheated, the meat was dry and chewy with the cheese on top not melted at all. As no one else commented I assumed I was just unlucky and kept quiet. Pudding Panna cotta arrived and was just as bad in fact inedible apart from a tiny bit of ice cream. The only enthusiasm shown by any of the staff was when a lady possibly the manager let her young dog run riot. In fairness the bill was not too bad. It was only later that that I found out that most of our party thought food and service or lack thereof was awful. Why didn’t we complain at the time? As I stated above it was a family reunion and no one wanted to spoil that by complaining about food. All around a rubbish experience and far below the standards expected of the place, after what I had been told.
We visited this well hidden pub in June. Situated in a beautiful hamlet. Friendly staff. The rooms were separate from the pub and a very generous size. After camping for several days the bath felt amazing, very deep and had lovely shampoo etc. if you like archeology or mysticism this is a great spot as it’s only a mile away from uffington white horse and situated on a ley line.
We had a really great lunch here. The food was delicious, they were friendly and accommodating, and even brought our dog a few biscuits at the end. Thanks a lot :
Nice location, Arkells beers, Mmm not sure on that. Too many dogs in there when we visited, espwcially considering meals are served, not very well behaved dogs either, let to roam outside in the garden and no control from the owners, locals but I guess the locals rule as its the pubs lifeline??Service: 4/5
An amazing 14th century Inn, lovely food and very, very friendly landlord & lady… definitely the perfect place to stop following a day walking the Ridgeway. We stayed at the Inns accommodation, and would highly recommend it… definitely worth 5*…Rooms: 4/5
After a very long walk, we were warmly welcomed despite being a bit muddy and the dog a bit smelly the food was proper pub grub, came out quickly and was totally scrumptious Service: 5/5
