A fab few hours of exploring this historic and still working china clay mine. Interactive exhibits on site and lots of information signs giving you a good idea of life when the mine was at its peak. Currently running an trail that kept the children happy. Lovely nature walk up to the top where you can see the active pit. Ticket price allows access for 12 months so it's good to know you can go back if you're in the area again and the price is reasonable. Nice little cafe offering a range of food.
Brilliant place . I came as a child in the 70's and brought my own family back. Well worth the money . Lots of woodland walks , areas for children to play. Lovely informative museum and areas for visitors to learn about the history of Wheal Martyn. Great local produce in the cafe .Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

A nicely sized site, that would be lovely to visit in the warmer / drier weather. The museum set up behind the cafe / shop looks a little worn out, but it doesn’t really hamper the enjoyment and educational aspect of the place. The outdoor area is also lovely and in dry weather or any weather if you’re dressed suitably would make a nice walk. The site is dog friendly as well which is nice. The cafe is nice and reasonably priced, with a nice range of food and drinks.
A really good exploration of the history of this local industry. An indoor exhibition and four good outdoor walking routes around old, and in some cases restored, clay extraction works. Add to all that a great shop and super cafe and you have a really good visit. If they have an area to improve, it would be to make the static indoor displays even more engaging particularly the Imrys corporate videos but there would be a substantial cost to that and a little patience will ensure anyone gets the most from them.
Very interesting place to visit. There is a lovely local scenic walk nearby. The shop has lovely items at a great price. The museum is great and involving and there is a local mine where you can see everything happening. So fascinating
Visited Wheal Martin Clay Works purely on a whim. It was a great decision, the museum was well laid out and informative, had plenty of different things to see and experience. I took the historic trail and really enjoyed the whole experience. The climb to the pit view wasn't as far as I expected, but it was an interesting walk with some great views att the top. I wish I'd got there earlier in the day to explore the other trails. The staff were absolutely lovely and I really enjoyed talking ok, listening! about the process of China clay mining and extraction. It's always nice to find out the origins of a material you live working with. Most of the site is wheelchair accessible, though a number of the outdoor trails are rather steep or accessible via stairs. The cafe was lovely. Arriving later hot food stops at 2pm I had a cream tea and it was good. Highly recommended.
We really enjoyed Wheal Martyn, learning about the history of China Clay in Cornwall and seeing the workplace and conditions workers had to endure. There is a good walk up to the modern clay works too, taking in other processes along the way. Well worth a visit if you are nearby.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure

Great day out, museum interactive and laid out as route leading to the walks round the estate, the sound of water is everywhere and makes the walk very tranquil. Great to see all the history clayworks, finished off with a Cornish cream tea in the cafe.
