It is too expensive you can buy cheaper elsewhere especially the books. As for the lotto machine it is broken more often than its working, if the 1 at Sutton is broken they offer u a ticket in the form of a till receipt, at walsall a unpleasant staff member just says its broken.
I pop in smiths because they have some good paper back books on offer staff are helpful and pleasant, good it's still open, some Smiths have been closed down,
For books, they have a fair collection of what the in thing is at this moment in time. But more variety down the road at the other book store. Stationary wise, they have the essentials. But again, more variety at another store in town. Yet if you need a one stop shop. Head here!
I used to love Smith's when I was a kid. And as a young man I was always popping in for stationery, magazines and music. But I find the place quite irritating now. I can never find what I'm looking for, hardly any staff to ask and when you do find them they are clueless. One of the first to start charging for a bag that is so thin it do t even make it out the shop. That's my reward for taking the trouble to go to the high Street paying parking etc. Twenty odd pounds of magazine's and you don't even get a bag. And we wonder why the high street is struggling so much.
I love visiting this store there's such a great selection of stationary and the staff are great too.
Bought an item 1 for £2.65 Went into another shop and saw 4 of them for £1 Exact same item, just different packaging. If you want value for money, shop elsewhere.
Arrived at 17.20 & asked what time was open until. Was told 6pm but lights were switched off at 5:30. Felt unwelcome. Low staffing levels only 2 staff covering both upper & ground floors. Store looks tired & so do the staff. Felt rushed to get out.
Staff were friendly and very helpful despite it being minutes away from closing time. As joyful an experience you could expect, especially for a Sticky Note and pen addict like myself, lol.
Whenever I visit either Birmingham or Walsall the shop we go into is WHSmith s we my family tend to buy a few magazines eg . Gardening, Sewing, Airfix model magazines. Both shops at both the locations are well stocked with stationery, books,. Newspapers, magazines oh dear the list is endless, I like a good look around in the stores of my choice. And newsagents and hobby shops are top of my list. WHSmith is a prominent store and can easily be found in both locations. Both are in or just of the main high street. Near to car parks, bus stations or bus routes. Staff in the stores are helpful, and polite. If you are after a certain item and can't find it a member of staff can usually point you in the right direction.
Birmingham Staff are Brilliant always helpful nothing a problem that can't be easily solved. It's worth popping in to see a fantastic store and happy workers. "You can't get that off the internet".
