Interesting walk through history. Very impressive displays of stone, bronze, iron, and roman artefacts before you even get to the Anglo saxon finds. Blown away by the depth of some of the displays. Great access to the site. You can enter all but one of the buildings. All of them gave little details that made them come alive. Good disabled parking. Nice cafe set for lunchtime snacks and treats, not full meals. Toilets in the car park and in the cafe. Nice 2 hr family adventure. If no activities may struggle to hold a teenagers interest at times. Would love to visit on a themed event day.
Our visit with the reenactment was superb. Not sure how often they have them, but their characters and knowledge were top notch. We particularly liked watching the blacksmith at work and we could try on the armour and swords for size before watching them fight! Absolutely brilliant experience.
A wonderful, historical gem we just happened to come across. A site of historical importance that stems from the stone age through to the Anglo Saxons. We got taking to a member of staff who was working in the allotment, she was extremely friendly and helpful. We had a lovely time here.
Thoroughly enjoyed the Dragon Festival. Axe throwing was excellent. The Drum session in the great hall was a great experience. Would really recommend a visit.
Wonderful place to explore and the museum has some brilliant artifacts. It is definitely worth the entry fee. If you just fancy taking a walk beside the river and lake, these are great too, and they are free. There is a cafe, toilets and a fab play area for the kids.
What an amazing space, lakes, miles of walking around rivers and so much to see along the way, pump house, saxon village, otters, museum, cafe, toilets ample parking etc .over the road vast forest to walk in also.
Are you descended from the Anglo Saxons? This recreated ancient village was built in the 70s, 80s and 90s to try and learn about the past, it’s fascinating. Also has good facilities and the beautiful River Lark.
We visited on a quiet day, so had plenty of time to look at the exhibits in the museum. It was really interesting and well presented. We felt like we learned a lot about Anglo-Saxon life. There wasn't a re-enactment going on and we felt the actual buildings would have been more interesting if there had been. There are also some nice walks around the lake, so it's not just the Anglo-Saxon stuff.
Went on a day when reenactors were staging the battle of Fornham. Excellent day looking at the various houses, which all had someone staying in them, in character, explaining the craft of activities that they were doing. Has a museum and some pigs on site, so would be worth a visit any time , but the reenactment brought it vividly to life.
This country park is very nice, especially the lake side. Great place for picnics.
