Minehead railway station is terminus of the West Somerset Railway - one of the longest heritage railways in the UK. The station itself has been restored to look much as it would have done in the heyday of the line but with the addition of a gift shop a modern café and a rare turntable. Enthusiasts of vintage railways can take advantage of the regular timetable of trains to see old diesels bu particularly steam engines. The sheds and siding also provide the opportunity to see engines being maintained or stored.nnThe station gives directly on the main street of Minehead as well as on to the esplanade and thus enjoys a particularly key position in the middle of the towm
Happened to be in town for a steam weekend. Clean station, very crowded. The smell was amazing!!
Was a nice train ride but we left 30mins late, only have 20mins in Minehead so could not leave the station, and got back 30mins later than expected as well. Enjoyable ride but poor planning and communication. We went on the flying Scotsman and it was not worth the extra money in my opinion as you don’t get to see it sat on the train
Steam and Diesel at Minehead. GWR 5100 Class 2-6-2T No. 4160 and Warship Class 42 D832 stand coupled on parallel tracks at Minehead Station.
