This park has a few attractions for such a small size park it has has one of the biggest garden of rememberable connected to the crematorium next door, it is a very peaceful place with its own lake where ashes are scattered around the lake, it also has a museum with quite a few exhibits including a stuffed panda, it also has exhibits from around the world, in the park is also a bowling green for those of you who bowl. There is a children's playground. With numerous rides and climbing frames with a slide and house attached,, there is also a decent size sand pit, there is a large car park next to two large greenhouses where the local council grow plants to be planted all aroun Macclesfield in the summer months.
Where else would you find a Giant Panda and a Scold's Bridle in the same room? West Park Museum, that's where!
I've lived near the area for many years and never been to the the museum. It's a little gem. We had a good family day out and walked into the West Park afterwards which is very good if you have children.
Currently closed due to the COVID lockdown. A quirky and small museum based on the collecting tastes of 19th Century mill owners. Egyptian materials, some paintings and local materials. A mysterious bust in marble - presumably of one of the aforesaid mill owners who had sufficient money and hubris to believe an attached name plate would be unnecessary or perhaps not enough money and modesty but the former is more likely to be true.
You would never expect to find something like this in the park of a Northern market town. But here it is: a small museum modeled by the architect of the architect of the South Kensington Museum drawing inspiration from the South gallery of Manchester's Whitworth that is full of - you wouldn't be able to guess it - Egyptian artefacts including a mummy case but also landscapes and a stuffed Panda. As I said: you wouldn't guess it. It is a joy to explore so step in next time.
Loverly park well looked after. Big play ground area for children. Loverly well kept bowling green. Free entry to museum with free parking for 3 cars at the front off the Museum. Free ample parking at the back of the play area. Lovely Cafe with life bands.
Has a good range of artifacts and plenty of things for children to do. Picture Quizzes for adults and children. Staff very helpful.
