Wow, what a great place...this is more than a shop it’s an art gallery. Some great & very different and one off pieces to enjoy and of course purchase. The owner & artist was more than happy to share more of a background to the art work which adds to the experience and appreciation to the art. For me a pleasure and was very different to some of the generic shops found in these small villages...look forward to having more of these art pieces in my own home to appreciate...maybe one day even might try a pottery class, not sure I will come out with so much of a masterpiece but what fun. Looking forward to visiting again on my next day out to Howarth...and thanks again for your time with me on my latest visit..
Whilst looking for some unusual works of art for our new home, I saw a very lovely 'painting'. Wanting to share this with my partner to see if she shared my appreciation, and to see if the colours matched our colour scheme...sad maybe, but when paying £2,000 it can't be a hasty purchase!... I took a phone photo I didn't see any signs prohibiting this. At this point, the gallery proprietor shouted out that taking pictures was forbidden. I tried to explain to her the reason why I was taking the photo, but she wouldn't listen and responded rudely. As I left the shop she commented that she sold 'loads of stuff' as if she didn't need my custom. The gallery has a very 'precious' atmosphere - signs everywhere to the effect of 'hands off' ''if touch it, you'll have to buy it', 'if you drop this, considered it sold'. Some lovely artworks, but very negative unwelcoming ambience.
Wonderful gallery filled with beautiful one-off pieces, unavailable anywhere else, based in a charming listed cottage type building. Also offers taster classes and longer courses/day workshops. Very patient, positive and encourage tuition. Really enjoyed my taster session. Definitely going back!
For me, this is more than just a gallery. The owner has managed to create a truly evocative atmosphere - landscapes leading the viewer over Dartmoor, ceramics echoing the colours of the ocean. Even down to the soft golden cushions of the old sofa on which one may rest and take in all that this unique place has to offer - truly inspirational.
We simply love Sonje’s work and it was so nice to see her back in Haworth again. The new premises for Werxzovart at the bottom of Main Street is superb and really shows off her work to perfection. Over the years we have been lucky enough to buy several beautiful pieces of art from her and we love them all. Our most recent acquisition was a wonderful large painting which now hangs on a wall on our landing. Such beautiful colours and detail. We don’t have a large house, but we have even managed to fit in a Triptych on our wall in our living area which is such a statement piece. The first piece of work we bought was one of Sonje’s first Jugs and we still love it. I guess we can say that we are now collectors of Sonje’s art! It is a shame to see any negative review. Some people obviously don’t appreciate the work and love that Sonje puts into all of her art pieces and if she may seem a little precious about people touching it or trying to photograph it, I think she has every right to be! They have also missed an opportunity to acquire some unique art work. Obviously Sonje’s art may not be to everyone’s taste and that is fine, we are all different and entitled to our opinions, but the work that is put into each piece can still be appreciated. A psychotic shopkeeper with a serious attitude problem. I’ll begin with highlighting her positive and pleasant replies to other negative reviews, which may give the impression the reviewer is unreasonable. Let me tell you, the negative review is undoubtably real and she’s a wolf in sheep’s clothing not worthy of the one star I’m forced to give. The shopkeeper has built an emotional wall between her and the poor unsuspecting tourists of Howarth who naively enter the dungeon of misery and judgement. We were unable to appreciate any artwork, partly because we couldn’t see it for the enormous amount of passive aggressive signs, but mainly because the atmosphere and her judgemental stares and looks of disgust made me feel more awkward than I’ve ever experienced before. We were unsurprisingly the only potential customers in the shop and left as soon as we could empty handed which must of damaged her ego. She aggressively confronted us with the words “what’s wrong” to which I replied “nothing, why would anything be wrong?” After a more aggression and confrontational words she definitely wrote the signs she LITERALLY screamed us out the shop with words “YOU COULDN’T AFFORD IT ANYWAY” echoing down the Haworth street. Very Strange.
A must see for art and craft enthusiasts alike. A unique place with beautiful items on show. Each piece is individual and tells its own story. After speaking with the artist herself, you cannot help but feel inspired when listening to her inspiration behind her 'werx'. A rare gem in the beautiful Howarth!
Great introduction to different pottery making techniques in a relaxed environment. Really enjoyed the experience.
Never have I experienced someone with more of an unpleasant and unwelcoming attitude with an environment to match. I do not appreciate being aggressively verbally abused as I leave a shop empty handed. What an angry egocentric woman.
Nice gallery with excellent items for sale. Contrary to some other comments on here I found the owner to be very helpful and friendly. We have recommended this place to others
