Very interesting place for anyone with an interest in history and I found the story of its discovery and preservation almost as interesting. Only comment I would make is to manage your expectations, this is the bath house or a villa, not a public baths so an hour is all you'll need/get to do the tourVisited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedYes
Amazing find hidden beneath the A1. The museum guide, Christa, was absolutely fantastic and really knows her stuff. During our time there she guided several people around and she speaks with so much passion. It's small but very interactive with lots for the children to do. Another plus are the eco toilets - its great to see places doing their bit for the environment. I highly recommend a visit!
My kids loved it here! Many games and puzzles for them to interact with. It's not large but you can get a lot out of the experience if you absorb the abundance of information on offer. Very helpful employee at the entrance.
Visited with my family. The site is fairly small but they've packed a lot in. All is centred the archaeological remains of a roman bath house once attached to a villa complex discovered in the 1960's. There are plenty of objects for visitors to handle, smell and play with including puzzles and replicas. The remains themselves are well presented with labels and information posted at various places to help you understand what you are seeing. We were greeted by staff who clearly love their job and were very welcoming and knowledgeable. They gave us an account of the sites discovery, how it came to be preserved and told us a little about how Romans would have used the baths, information that is also shown around the baths but it's nice to hear it related with such passion and enthusiasm. Would recommend for a fun and educational way to spend an hour so.
Nice historical place
A fantastic site in a unique location. A rare chance to see the surving remains of a private Roman Bath House, along with finds from the site when it was excavated in the 60s & 70s. All housed in a purpose built steel chamber 9m below the A1 motorway!
A lovely, informative experience yesterday at Welwyn Roman Baths. Our guide was phenomenal. Thank you for educating us and sharing your knowledge. Our young people enjoyed the games and challenges. Well worth a visit.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNot sure
The discovery of the site is as interesting as the site itself. This is one of the best small museums I've ever visited, full of history and plenty of humour too displayed on the info boards. Simon, the museum guide, is very knowledgeable and welcoming. Highly recommended.
Fascinating place to visit and, for a small museum, there is plenty to see. The floor plan of the baths is pretty complete so it's easy to see how the baths were used and heated. Really interesting info boards and artefacts to see as well. Would definitely recommend a visit.
Spend a good hour and a hard here with the children. Lots of information and mini activities for them to do. We'll worth the entry fee for this little gem sitting under the A1Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
