Better than Stonehenge! Because Wayland's Smithy isn't over-run with people, because it is in a lovely glade, and because of its somewhat isolated position, for me, I would come here any day over Stonehenge once one has seen Stonehenge, if only once, of course, as one must!. Easy walk from the NT White Horse carpark although can drive closer.
Very impressive long barrow, excavated and "reconstructed" in the 1960's. Lovely location in a peaceful glade just off the ridgeway, well worth a few minutes to walk around, and a few more to sit in the shade.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
4500 year old long barrow burial chamber. It’s set in a small forested area in the middle off a fiend just off the ridgeway. Worth a visit if you’re in the area. It’s a very tranquil place.Visited onWeekdayWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo

Nice little site. Not a great deal to see like a lot of the other sites around here, but a nice walk from the White Horse car park, and a shaded stroll around the smithy.
Nice place to walk to from the white horse hill, not that much to see but it can be interesting place to visit.Visited onWeekendWait timeNo waitReservation recommendedNo
WOW what a place we'll worth the mile long walk from the National Trust Car Park which is free for members . Wayland pops up in Scandinavian German and Anglo Saxon Legend . His story also features on the front panel of the amazing Franks Casket which can be seen at the British Museum and shouldn't be missed . If that is not enough he is also featured in the fantastic Anglo Saxon poem Deor ! That came to pass and so shall this ! the very stoic attitude of Anglo Saxon thought . Also there is more !!!!!!! he is in the Poetic Eddas and Beowulf a true and long lasting Legend a Hero of the first order WOW and his Smithy is here in the UK . Rumour has it if you tie your horse up here over night and leave a Penny it shall be re shoed come morning . We'll worth a visit and you can see the Uffington White Horse and Castle too . It's just to good to pass up . Don't miss this wonderous sight especially if your horse needs to be re shoed .
This is the place you go to and contemplate whatever you might have on your mind. It's peaceful and amazing to think it's about 5500 years old from the Neolithic era. I've been here many times and thoroughly enjoy the walk or ride there and back along the Ridgeway.
Really accessible piece of ancient history near Swindon. When you combine a walk with Uffington Hill Fort and White Horse it's a great place to spend a few hours.
On the Ridgeway hides a lovely neolithic long barrow. It is in a good condition and well looked after. There is some parking off the main road, quite a long walk along the Ridgway, past a little crossroads and it is on the left very well signposted. The track can be muddy and even when the weather is not favourable it can get busy with dog walkers and cyclists.
