The place is clean I'll give it that but they don't really have enough staff for the patients .My da was in and treated like he was just an old man , ignored alot as was the man in the next bed to him . We tried to explain to the staff something was far wrong with my father but they brushed it off . Like he had dementia or something , my da went into this place for rehabilitation after being in the altnagelvin . Just before that he was driving , socializing ect . Years ago he went into hospital and got mrsa and because of his condition he was high risk and it was on his notes . He had problems with his kidneys a few times . In gransha he got constipation and a nurse gave him laxatives and he went but her words were "I've gave him another huge dose so he'll be fine " if she'd read his notes properly she have realized that wasn't the case . His kidneys failed completely and after my mother told the docter that this wasnt my da , he was seeing things, they phoned an ambulance to take him back up to hospital . Three consultants told us he was overdosed with laxatives and his kidneys were bad , he spent days on dialysis, then went into resuscitation . He died a few weeks later . So if your family has to go into here make sure you tell the nurses if you think something's wrong . Don't let them treat you or your relative like they know you , they don't ! .Let your voice be heard . My father was only in his 70s and should still be with us . We're heartbroken .so please take heed of this and make things better for other people .My da only had an ulcer on his toe and was on a intravenous drip but because of infection in the altnagelvin he was took here . He ended up with sepsis ? And it took from the Sunday till the Friday for him to be admitted back to the icu unit in the Altnagelvin. He should never have been took of the intravenous drip . If the waterside doesn't provide this kind of care then he should never have been sent there . .after he was took up to the altnagelvin he ended up having to be resuscitated!!! .we were then told he decided he didnt want resuscitated again , if it happened again .this is out of character for my da because he was a fighter and had the will to live . I've alot more to write to the altnagelvin and I will . It won't bring my da back but it may save someone else.
