This is a basic non-nonsense service area totally lacking in frills and with friendly staff. If you are travelling north it’s worth crossing the bridge to the more spacious seating area on the south-bound side. The Greggs is indoors on the south and not a shed in the car park as on the north. A plus on the north side is a gap in the fence leading to the outside world and a handy little shop selling booze and basic groceries.
Nothing really to complain about. The room was spotless and the bed comfortable etc. The staff were friendly and helpful. The TV didn't work in my room though, but I reported it and was offered help. Notes were taken and I felt like it will have been fixed for the next person to use the room. It didn't bother me with it not working because I hardly watch TV anyway. The room could do with some soundproofing though as it was too easy to hear people walking around on the floor above, but otherwise all was good.
Washington Moto is the first services south of Newcastle, standard facilities including Gregg's,Costa Coffee, Burger king and Travelodge. Plenty of parking for both cars and lorries. Always had friendly helpful service here. I would return and recommend this services.
The whole place stank of sewage. The men’s toilets are in need of a lot of work. No soap in dispenser, water pressure is like being dribbled on. The disabled toilets used for the baby changing facility was disgusting. The baby changing mat already in place looked like it had been there and not cleaned in years. The Burger King is rotten. Thank god for the tiny greggs cabin I give that place 5/5. Prices there are shocking £2.40 for a steak bake. To be expected though it is a services location.
Gents toilets poor. No lock on cubicle door. No soap in dispenser. Poor water supply. Come on Moto, you still take big money of us hgv drivers for overnight parking. NOT GOOD ENOUGH
If I were a foreign tourist I would be disgusted. As I am British I just feel ashamed that we have places like this. Surely Moto can do better than the soulless dining area and the poor selection of food and amenities. I should have passed by and found a decent pub for a break.
Asked for hot drinks and a steak bake, steak bake was barely warm asked for it to be hotter told by assistant he could only replace with a hot one that would take upto 20 mins which I hadn't got time to wait for
McDonald's here. Always clean and not too busy Costa coffe with lotsof cakes and typical w.h. Smith store too. EV car Charging point right by the food and fast Cornish pasty hut by the door if you are in a hurry. Picnic area by carpark for your own food. Popular with families and coach holidays stops.
This service station seemed very clean and the staff very friendly, however they are not disability-friendly. I had to stop here at around midnight with my disabled Mother on the Northbound side to get her to the bathroom and to get her something to eat but the problem we encountered is that the northbound side is closed at night and has no toilets accessible. There is also no lift up to the sky bridge, so I had to try and get her up the stairs, over to the other side and back again, when she has limited mobility and it makes her breathless to walk, without her wheelchair, in the cold, on a day she was particularly struggling and was desperate for the toilet. It is a shame we and likely others have had to have this experience, and I would appreciate seeing a significant change to this station to make it more accessible in the future for thousands of other travelers with significant needs
Best services on the A1 in the North, always stop here on long journeys in preference to all other services. Greggs, M&S food Hall, noodle bar and coffees sort the whole family. Toilet facilities are excellent too.
