Pleasant area to walk though today the weather was far from ideal so a bit muddy in places. From the car park you can stroll up through a walled garden area & across a stretch of grass that leads you to Waltham Abbey Church & highstreet beyond. In the churchyard you can find the resting place of King Harold. Some interesting architecture too.
Great place to come for walks and a bit of history. The Abbey was dissolved in 1540. It was the last monastic house in England to be surrendered to the Crown. Although, you can still see 14th century gatehouse and bridge that remains, as well as the walls of the post-medieval house that was built following its dissolution. We have visited in early evening and it still managed to see the beauty of this area, especially with all Christmas lights, which added extra magical feeling to it. Lots of ducks in the river minding their business. : Beautiful garden. Lots of places to eat and shops. The car park is next to Waltham Abbey Gardens and is £1 first hour and afterwards £2 up to 24 hours. Nice place to bring your furry friends too!
It's a beautiful old ruins has been saved since 14th century. The Waltham Abbey Gatehouse. The small and large archways were for wheeled and pedestrian traffic respectively. You can find them at the entrance to the gorgeous park and leads to fields/lee valley or local nice and cosy town centre.
Beautiful historic place. We got married 1969 here also my son got married here 2002.. xx
Not been here before, nice open space Grandkids loved it. Rose garden was tranquil, good for a picnic or lunch.
Part of English Heritage. Free entry and lovely park.
Go here most days to walk dog in the gardens it's very peaceful here
Really lovely peaceful place. Flat easy walking and plenty to see and plenty of seating. I would love to go back when the roses in the walled garden are in bloom. By the Abbey Gateway, we watched ducks, geese, coots, moorhens and loads of pigeons doing their thing! Good place for all ages to visit. Lots of photo opportunities.
Interesting historic location nice spot to relax if you're in the area but wouldn't drive a long way to visit.
Plenty of paid parking, but be aware some entrances to the Abbey Gardens are not wheelchair accessible. Short pleasant walk around the garden. Quite a few cafes to have a cuppa along the High Street. Lots of beauty salons/nail bars too.
