Apart from the kennel club leaflet no other information is given on the course content, no objectives are shared with the group at each lesson so it's hard to know what is being achieved or indeed, why you are asked to do the activities. There is no separation of the puppies except for chairs spread out around the room. If have a pup that is easily distracted this means you spend more of the lesson trying to pull them away from other puppies than being able to direct them. I also found there was a lot of dead time while the instructor decided what to do next. The first session included everyone in turn being asked to scan their dog, could have been done by the trainer on arrival just to save time and to be able to begin training without delay. I totally understand that the trainers are volunteers but the kennel club really should train the trainers to ensure the course they put their name to is fit for purpose and is meaningful to dogs and owners alike.
The dog trainers Trudy and Mira are amazing truly put animals first, I came with a rescue dog, still work in progress, but with their help , she is turning out to be an amazing dog ,
I honestly cannot recommend Wakefield Dog Training Club enough! The trainers are the most friendly, helpful people you'll ever meet. They're always welcoming & will give sound advice wherever they can. The kids learn so much in the Junior class too, they have fun whilst learning heelwork etc which is great for all involved & Sue is fantastic with the kids, she is so patient & kind to the children. Wakefield Dog Training Club is brilliant.
Sue Osborne is a most helpful and competent trainer. She has helped with my dog and regularly holds training classes for junior handlers who have had much success. I have never found her to be rude and she always makes time for the people in her classes
What a fabulous place to train your dog. Friendly, helpful trainers that have years of experience. All the trainers are Kennel club registered. We have been going here for 2 years and our dog has loved it. For 1st class training look no further.
We decided to take our puppy to a foundation class here and it's been a deeply disappointing and discouraging experience from week one. Our "trainer" was strict and extremely rigid. There was no dialogue. It was her way or the "wrong" way. We were repeatedly told what to do rather than encouraged to do what worked for us. The dogs didn't get to socialise either. They remained away from each other the whole time although, to their credit, this could be due to Covid at the moment. I appreciate this may sound like sour grapes, but I don't think a puppy foundation class should finish with a trainer saying everyone's done really well but my dog should listen better. I know she should. I was there and I'm fully aware. I'm also aware that her breed is notorious for being easily distracted by literally everything. She is still only 5 months old and I know that she will get there. A puppy foundation course should be a positive experience but this was very far from it.
I've been taking my dog here for almost a year now, starting with puppy training. You couldn't ask for a friendlier, more helpful bunch of people. The trainers really go out of their way to get you and your dog understanding one another and working well together.
I've watched from the sidelines as my 9yr old granddaughter and her 2yr old staffy have both developed into the perfect partnership. This is not only due to their unique bond and daily hard work but also largely to Sue and WDTC who have KC history, years of experience and a training pedigree rubbish pun to match any in the U.K. Watching a 9yr old with a young staffy at Crufts this year and just being told they have qualified again for 2018 says it all. It is just unfortunate that occasionally some may mistake someone who in their role as a dog trainer and is being assertive and positive, as being rude when they clearly are not. If you are looking for a friendly, experienced dog training club then the WDTC is without doubt a top choice.
Great trainers, fair prices, and my dog has come so far and is a lot more relaxed since attending and getting used to different environments and situations.
Excellent trainers. Very patient with dogs of all temperaments. Would highly recommend.
