Customer service needs improving. Every time I go into this Ely to click and collect I’m left waiting for an ages even though I have checked in beforehand. The staff are either not present at the desk or are engaged with another customer who has a long winded issue. It would take no time to apologise to the customer being dealt with and check with the customer in line if they just need to collect, or even better, call an additional colleague to help. Every time I’m left waiting 15+ minutes to collect a parcel I can see on the desk. Please work on training employees on how to efficiently multitask.
We shop at Waitrose regularly, and although we can’t always go in person, I often order online. Unfortunately, deliveries to my area come from the Ely store, and there’s always something wrong.nnMost often, it’s the use-by dates. I frequently receive items that expire within just 1 or 2 days. When I had time, I used to check the order and send things back—but honestly, it’s exhausting.nnToday’s delivery was especially disappointing. I didn’t get the chance to check everything while the driver was there, but once I did, I saw that eight items had incredibly short shelf lives—some expiring tomorrow, some the day after. It felt like I was being sent whatever the store was trying to get rid of.nn24 eggs with a 4-day expiry? Who is supposed to eat that many eggs in 4 days? Blueberries that expire tomorrow, and half of them already moldy. Strawberries with just one day of freshness left—after washing them, straight to the bin.nnI’ve raised this issue before, but it keeps happening. Today, I genuinely felt like my online order was treated as a dumping ground for short-dated stock.nnSorry, but this is completely unacceptable from a store that prides itself on being “the highest quality” in the UK.
Not huge, but normally has most things you might need. Had times last year when it was bereft of fresh fruit and veg, but that shortage seems to have passed. The meat, fish, and sushi counters are good. The back corner of the shop has mysteriously smelled like used plasters ever since the refurb, but hey, nobody's perfect!
Excellent car park very close to the Market Square in Ely. Easy walking distance from shops, Market stalls on most days but busy on Thursdays and Saturdays. First two hours of parking is free, but be aware that if you stay longer than two hours, you will be fined.
Great produce always something different. True bonus is proper fish, meat counter. Ideal for single people. Wish more supermarkets still had them. Not everyone wantd to purchase 6 pork chops! Many of us just need 1.
